What was one meal your mom used to make when you were a kid that you absolutely hated?!
Answers: For me, it was a dish she referred to as a boiled dinner. She'd take cut potatoes, green beans and bacon and cook them up as a soup like meal. I absolutely hate boiled bacon, so it always grossed me out. To this day, I refuse to eat that meal. Her defense is that bacon only cost $1.00 back then.
I hated the fried fish with yellow rice with cut up hot dogs and shrimp in it that my mom made. The combination of it all cooking would reek the house with a nasty smell. I hated eating it. I would hide the food in my napkin and throw it away. To this day, I would not eat any seafood. Thanks ma!
My mother used to make us eat Liver and Onions with boiled potatoes...She would cook the Liver so much that it was like the bottom of your shoe and put canned brown gravy on it.....
Try serving that to an 8 year old.
Same thing...Liver was less expensive than Chicken in those days...
ALL of them................ my mother couldn't cook then, and she can't cook now!!!
Baked beans casserole with hot dogs cut up in it!!!! Makes me queasy to think about it !
Goulash - to this day I cannot stomach green bell peppers.
Although, having to feed a family now myself, I know she was feeding us what she could. And wasn't just trying to gross me out.
Liver and onions with bacon. She said the bacon was to give the liver taste. Why make something that has no taste? I never understood. To this day, I feel a little nauseous when I walk by the liver in the meat aisle at the grocery store. YUK! My brother and I finally started refusing to eat it and made her make us mac and cheese on those nights.
I hated my mothers meatloaf...
Most of the meals I had when I was young I hated!! They would be served up again for me at the next meal time.....ugh!
I was a terrible eater.....but now will eat absolutely anything!
One of the worst meals (and my poor mother was an excellent cook!) was kedgeree of smoked cod, with a creamy yellow sauce in which there were pieces or chopped up hard boiled egg and peas.....I would love it today!
scrambled eggs with spinach..yummmmm...
Hamhock and beans.
My mom was a really bad cook. I hated her goulash. She also made this odd casserole in a 9x9 pan (there were 6 of us), she would put down a layer of raw burger, than dump a can of mixed veggies on it, put some frozen tater tots on that and dump a can of Cream of Mushroom Soup on top of it and bake it up. Odd, just odd.
My Dad was the much better cook. And though we never hurt for money (although at the time though we were poor the way my Dad was always whining about how he had no money) I realize feed a family of 6 takes money but now it's just mom and dad and they grill every freaking night. :)
Split pea soup! What the heck is that stuff anyway?!? Also, Pickled Pig's feet! WTF?!?!?
: )
Every Sunday we had fried chicken, mashed potatoes and English Peas. Every Sunday!
I hated those English Peas. Still today I find it hard to fix them even though I like them now.
She also liked to make "casseroles". Anything she could think of to put in one dish and serve it. To this day I do not make casseroles much. If I do it has to be a special one.
potatos, bacon, and green beans is one of my favorite meals from when i was a kid until now, but we fried the bacon first then added the water.
uuuuum... i dont remember not liking anything my mom made when i was a kid, shes the best cook.
My mom used to fix liver and onions.....with gravy and white rice. Then she had the audacity to make some lima beans for the vegetable. UGH! It was awful!
In a close second, she also made 10-bean soup out of some dried beans in a bag. She had to cooks those mugs ALL day to make them soft. She made cornbread muffins and gave each family member a hearty portion of ham hock in our soup. It was SO gross.
lol. (good question! star for YOU!)
Actually I quite liked my mom's cooking. I really cannot think of any dish she made that I absolutely hated.
My mom was a good cook, although a very 1950's cook. But I gagged and refused to eat creamed spinach. It's nasty! And it still is to this day! It took me 20+ years to like cooked spinach in lasagna or manicotti, or raw spinach. But never ever creamed spinach!
lima beans, creamed corn, hominy[still don't know what that was....lol]not all athe same time though and her liver was shoe liver cooked tooooooo...... long i love my liver though
meat loaf
I hated (and still can't stand) pea soup. It's gross looking, smells bad, and tastes worst. It's made from split peas and ham. Yuck.
