Can you use food coloring to color Cool Whip?!

Question: Like the Wilton food coloring gels with white Cool Whip? Can you do that or will it mess up the cool whip?

Sure, just put a small spoonful in a small bowl and a drop or two of your coloring in, blend it well with a rubber spatula. Then mix that in with the rest of the CoolWhip and blend it in slowly, do not beat it in, or your CoolWhip will go flat.
You won't get bright colors with this, just pastels. If you need brighter colors, sweetened heavy whipping cream will work, but that requires work and you're talking a whole lot more fat calories here...
Hope this helps!

yes

You can add just a little at a time until you get the color you want. It will work just fine...

Hello:

Basically any kind of food coloring will work with Cool-Whip and it shouldn't make the Cool-Whip taste any different,no matter what brand of food coloring it is. I would just test a little bit of Cool-Whip ahead of time with this type of food coloring, just to make sure that it doesn't alter the taste or appearance of the Cool-Whip! ;-)

yes...just don't use to much or it will get runny

The gel color is very vibrant as opposed to drops so be careful. I over-did it last year with some black gel in frosting and my guests had black mouths -- it was awful!

According to the Kraft Recipe Website-- Yes-- and since they make it they should know.

You should be able to use the gel colorings as well, but I would experiment with them and a little bit of the Cool Whip to see how much you need.

Happy Tinting!

I would think so, sure! A friend of mine who is an interior decorator explained to me food coloring is water based recently, when I was trying to mix some paint to make a certain green color to paint in my apartment......I didn't have any green water based paint, but had white....she gave me a tube of green food coloring, and it worked great, mixed with the white paint! Came out a real pretty light green color! So, if it can mix with paint, I am sure it will mix with Cool Whip!

Yes you can color cool whip. I would suggest though that you use the Wilton PASTES and not the gels. The gels tend to liquify the cool whip a tad. The paste is much drier and doesn't flatten the fluffiness of the cool whip.

Good Luck.

why would it mess up the cool whip, food coloring doesn't have any chemical properties that mess with the food (that doesn't mean that drinking the bottle of food coloring won't hurt you) but its fine

Yes you can.
