Are all artificial food flavours safe to consume?!

Question: I am especially concerened about the sour cherry flavour in some cordials, lolies and chewing gums

Artificial flavourings and colours are not tested as well as they should be.

For instance, sodium benzoate (soda pop, other candy, acts as a preservative) as well as artificial colours, in a very recent, large study increased children's hyperactive behaviours.

I think, if you're at all suspicious, avoid the food additive. Though they should be generally safe in that they probably aren't carcinogenic, behavioural changes aren't really researched well.

Not if you allergic to them Red Dye #5 is notorious for allergic reactions.

You'd assume so, as they have all been tested, though some people question the safety of the artificial sweetener Aspartame, or sweetener 951, which is used often in Diet or Light products.
