How do you say Kolachy? What is it?!
It is considered an old European tradition, not only Czech. Source, Google, see link below.
You will find it in many Polish restaurants and homes. In fact, if you see any in your grocery store, chances are better then 50/50 that it is listed as a Polish food. It can be a desert, or a entree meal. It all depends on the filling.
A common filling is a meat or potato's and spices. You can either fry it or bake it in butter and smother it in cooked onions on top. That is how we had it in my house when I was growing up. Yum, Now I have to go out and buy some.
Answers: It is not just Czech and/or Slovak. This is also a Russian, Ukrainian, Lithuanian and a Polish food. Though sometimes they call it by different names. The Poles also call it a Kolachy, but they may spell it differently.

Its actually spelled Kolacky and it is pronounced "Ko-la-che" It's a cookie usually filled with fruit. Apricots or rasberries for example.
OK. First things first, it's Kolache. Second of all, it's also known as a pig in a blanket. A pig in a blanket is a piece of meat that is wrapped in a pastry. Hope that helps!
Hmm, you received two different polar definitions. I have never heard of this.
Okay, I googled it. It's Czech and Slovak. Here's the definitive answer (according to Mr. Wikipedia): type of pastry consisting of fillings ranging from fruits to cheeses inside a bread roll.
Sounds tasty! Boy, you sure are making me work for answers this morning.
