Can salt be used to perserve raw meat in supermarkets instead of refrigeration ?!

NO!!!! On the face of it you might say it would be cheaper but only if you ignored the horrendous number of heart attacks, strokes and other deaths it would cause!!!!!

Before meat can be left at room temp it has to be salt cured. This entails alot more than just dipping it in salt. During the curing process it must be refrigerated.
