Do milk and other foods help you sleep at night?!
how does it work if it does?
also, my son likes to have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or a banana before bed...will this make him more awake?
He has a hard time falling asleep, he is so restless. Trying to figure out what foods to avoid and what foods help.

Milk can be helpful, but throw in a few carbs -- it will fill him up and help bring on the zzz's (just think of how much you want to take a nap after a big meal!) Also, try creating a wind-down routine with him that involves taking a bath (the lavender is a great idea), getting his things ready for the next morning, and reading a book or even singing a lullaby. Shut off tv/computers at least an hour, preferably two, before bedtime. Good luck!
I tried warm milk... It was just nasty!! Don't eat or drink anything with too much sugar. That's sure to keep him awake. Stick with a glass of water or maybe an apple. If he is that restless read to him before he goes to sleep.

I think banana's are more an energy food and the sugar in jam/jelly might give him a little sugar boost which is obviously not ideal at bed time.
I know cheese isn't a good idea before bed as it is difficult to digest and so your body doesn't really get the rest it needs during your sleeping hours.

Try half a turkey sandwich and a glass of mild.
It will help him to sleep.
