A "handful" of black pepper is about how much?!

Question: Have a recipe that calls for 2 handfuls of black pepper. But what amount is that.

Answers: Have a recipe that calls for 2 handfuls of black pepper. But what amount is that.

Well, two handfuls.

I'd guess a handful would be about 1/3 to 1/2 a cup.

But it depends on whether it's an open handful or a closed handful. You must have an old recipe. It could be as little as 1/4 cup.

Why don't you just pour a handful of pepper into your hand, and add it, then do it again? That's your two handfuls. If you must measure, pour it into your hands, then into a bowl, then into a 1/4 measuring cup and see how many you get.

That's a lot of damn pepper. This better be a multi-serving recipe.

depends how big your hand is i suppose....its probably about 1/4 cup

ground or whole peppercorns ?

either a BIG recipe or ''some like it hot''...
