How did "Beefeaters" get their name? Is it relevant to eating beef, I wonder??!

Yeomen of the guards are different to beefeaters. Too bored to say why, but it's not that important anyway. But aren't they great?! How do you get that job, apart from being in the forces? Wouldn't it be funny if there were men in pink costumes called hameaters? Or woolly ones called lambeaters? Well, not really, but it is a little bit.

I believe it was because they tested the Royal meat for poison although I could be completely and utterly wrong!!

yes because in the olden days they used to taste all the food before it was given to the king / queen of the time incase it was poisoned.

LOL not a nice job if someone's trying to poison that food !
