Are burnt sausages carcinogenic?!

Question: Jesus. How do people live to be 60 these days?

Answers: Jesus. How do people live to be 60 these days?

I think it is believed that all burnt food could be!

It depends what additives have been used to preserve the meat. If none, I'd suggest it's unlikely.
All burnt meat is supposed to be slightly, but people would live in fear if they took it all too seriously.

There has been research suggesting that some burnt foods contain carcinogens. I think that it is toast in particular which has been identified as a problem.

no

Why would you want to eat burned food?

At best, they will taste pretty disgusting.
Might taste better if you roll them in some dirt before eating.

Please, don't invite me over for breakfast!

Suggest you go out to eat...

With anything Burned you run that risk.

May be.

Some substances in meat can be converted by heat and hence charring to a class of chemicals known as Heterocyclic Aromatic Amines (HAA). Broadly there are two sorts of HAA those derived from pyridine and the other from the amino acids of glutamate and tryptophan. These compounds are strongly positive in the Ames bacterial mutagenicity test and produce cancers in rats dosed with these agents. However mammalian cell lines don’t show the same susceptibility and the enzymes that the human body uses to detoxify these chemicals are present in higher concentration than in rats. Studies of subjects with and without cancer comparing food intake and preference for well cooked meats and fish are inconclusive as yet.

Bottom line - if you smoke cigarettes you’ve no need to worry about food being overcooked since the cancer risk from cigarettes is massive by comparison with the possible risk from HAA in food. Similarly fungal toxins, mycotoxins such as aflatoxin, from degraded foodstuffs are a much higher risk so throw out all your food items well past their “use by dates”!
