Sugar High: truth or myth? The truth might surprise you!?!
Studies gave some kids sugared foods while others got foods with artificial sweeteners. Their parents and the researchers didn't know who was eating sugar and who wasn't. The researchers monitored the kids for things like irritability and hyperactivity. They found no difference. The studies also say that if food has any effect, it would be the caffeine in chocolate and soda that's giving you the buzz, not the sugar. Research shows that instead of jacking you up, sugar actually calms you down.
There is no such thing as a 'sugar high!
Answers: The idea that sugar causes hyperactivity is a myth. The research is very clear, sugar does not make you hyperactive.

Have you ever heard the saying "If most people believe it, then it's probably wrong"?
I am a medical student, but even before then I always knew there was no such thing as a sugar high. Stupid people like Dr. Mercola perpetuate this myth.
Or sugar rush, for that matter.
That may be true....but its not a question.
Its a statement.
i just get a sick feeling in my tummy when i have to much sugar ;(
Psychosomatic or not, a sugar high is still fun
Sugar is energy so I believe that mental activity goes up and it may be unfocused. so sugar is sweet...
how many diabetics were in the test group? How many studies are you talking about. I could do a study proving or disproving almost anything if I got to set the controls.
All it proves is that FIGURES LIE and LIARS FIGURE.
Okay. I want a link to the study please. If they found no difference in the children who were given sugar and the ones given artificial sweeteners, why are you saying that sugar calms you down. Obviously it doesn't if there was no difference in the activity of the children. Actually this study doesn't seem sound in its findings if it's actually a study. There was no control group. If they were studying the results of giving children sugar, they would have had the experimental group (the sugar kids) and a control group (kids that were given nothing -not even artificial sweetener).
NOW i know for sure im right!!
sugar never gave me the 'high' people said. it just made me more tired!
I guess I can kick my sugar habit now!!!!
I know it's not true, but try telling the hundreds of parents out there. They all blame sugar for their kids' behavior! I agree caffeine causes much more hyperactivity, no matter what age!
oh,really! well let me clarify to you, that is a bunch of mess. i can personally say that i alone have had a sugar rush. i use to be a personal trainer, and i know the difference when you eat sugar and when you don't. you get amped up on all the sugar and then you crash.you become sluggish and want to sit or sleep because you suddenly lose your energy. trust me it's a fact.
ok.there are 4 ppl here and I asked them all and they said it was true.I am not much of a sugar freak sorry! So I asked them and they said its true! I believe them.
cool thanks for sharing i would have never guessed
Please explain why my child w/ adhd who is already over active can have just a dumb dumb sucker and cant sit still will damn near kill his self if you don't watch him. Well I'm sure its not the sugar! Ya think?
say what you want, those dumb doctors never lived with my son...
who is so hyper he equals 5 boys after he's had sugar... I tested it myself..
even his doctor got mad at him for being so hyper in the clinic...
great fact! thanks for sharing.
You've made a statement, not asked a question. Your statement is based in facts collected by several studies. What you failed to include from these studies is that some people, who have consumed large amounts of real sugar(s), do get jittery and irritable when the energy boost from sugar(s) wears off. The condition is reminiscent of the DTs when coming off highs from alcohol and other drugs. Therefore your statement is misleading. The studies reveal the origin of the myth-of-sugar-highs. Your final statement "There is no such thing as a sugar high!" reminds me of a quote attributed to Mark Twain and others: "There are three kinds of lies; lies, damned lies and statistics". In your statement you omitted part of the truth. This, in my opinion, equivocates to false information. So, once again, a "statistic" has mislead others.
That's funny cause all of my friends "get hyper off of sugar" but I always found that it made me tired
