How do you feel about?!
Answers: How do you feel about fast food in America today? Does it promote obesity? Is it true that some "healthy" choices fast food chains provide are actually not so healthy?
I think it does promote obesity. I saw a television show on PBS once. A scientist was talking about how our bodies are designed to feel hungry in advance. For example, in the early days of humans, it took awhile to acquire and prepare food and it was like this until just recently, so our bodies tell us to start finding or fixing food long before we actually need it. He said that we haven't adjusted for the instant food we have today, so we end up eating more in the long run. It's just a lot healthier for people to prepare their own food or to eat food that takes longer to make and get. I also think that fast food chains promote foods as healthy when they are really not that healthy. For example, a salad is considered healthy, but some restaurants provide such a high fat/high calorie dressing that the salad is just as unhealthy as a burger with lettuce and vegetables on it. And chicken strips that are deep fried are not nearly as healthy as people think they are. On the other hand, I believe that people have a right to sell whatever they want to sell. If customers will buy it, then it's not fair to stop a company from selling a product or service. But people do need to educate themselves on eating healthy. We should require nutrition classes in all public schools (starting in elementary) and we should require restaurants to advertise responsibly and make their nutritional information very accessable. If, after that, people choose unhealthy food then it is their choice.
I believe it does promote obesity. I still eat it on occasion, I am not completely against it, but I am not saying it is healthy either. I think some of the salads certain places claim are "healthy" are actually not that good for you. And the juices some places serve have just as many calories as the pop! But fast-food is still easier to do, and tastes good, so I can't help but indulge once in a while. :)
they are convenient. whether people like or dislike it is not my business. i'll eat foods that i like unless they make me feel like im destroying my health condition by consuming the foods. it could be even more probable to get sick and ill out of the stresses to worry what to eat and not rather than eating and digesting most part of the so called unhealthy food freely and enjoyably.
Fast food is an industry. Their "healthy" choices are a marketing tool for declining sales. Most are marginally healthier than the regular menu items. Read "Fast Food Nation". It will make you never want to eat at a fast food restaurant again.
After just seeing "Super Size Me", my views of fast food in this country have definitely changed. And what timing...right as I was in the midst of daily binges because of the Monopoly game promotion at McD's. Fast food, in my opinion, isn't in existence to provide its customers with the most nutritional, all-around healthy meal possible; they merely provide food, fast, that makes you feel satiated for a long period of time. The documentary also noted that there were only 7 items on McD's whole menu which DIDN'T contain any sugar.
I feel that fast food chains do promote obesity. Even the salads at fast food places are loaded with sugar. This documentary also led me to believe that the guy was becoming physically addicted to the food which was killing him. He began getting bad headaches, and feeling depressed...until he got his sugar/fast food fix, then he was right as rain. If you want to be blown away, by some crazy numbers see this documentary. However, keep in mind that this documentary isn't a true scientific experiment and you have to evaluate the motives for making the documentary as well as numbers or facts for yourself.
All that being said...I still may grab a fry and shake.
YES!!!!!!! & they don't even serve healthy foods for it's consumers....Some healthy"fast food chains are actually not so healthy becoz they put so many PRESERVATIVES ON IT!!!!!!
