Do anchovies taste any good? What about Squid?!

Question: MY mom said eating squid is like chwing on a rubbrband.

Answers: MY mom said eating squid is like chwing on a rubbrband.

my mother never made much of anything other than the usual meat and potatoes meals. i never tried anything fancy until i met my wife. her father is Italian and i had my first taste of calamari (squid) while out to dinner with the family. if made properly the texture kind of reminds you of a firm onion ring, not a rubber band. i actually prefer calamari unbreaded in a cold salad.

as far as anchovies goes, i tried it once and didn't care for the very salty taste.

my wife has a steadfast rule that if you've never eaten it you must try it. if you don't like it after that point, fine.

I'm sure that they do to some people. They are not my personal favorites.

Your Mom is right!

They are both acquired tastes.

If your squid is like rubber, you haven't cooked it correctly.

I've had octopus before and if it's anything like squid it's kind of an iffy buisness.
You have to get it prepared JUST right and served at JUST the right time for it to taste good. Otherwise, it tastes like spongy rubber.

Calamari - if prepared properly - is delicious. I don't personally care much for anchovies however ... way too salty for my tastes.

anchovies taste like salt.....Its a aquired taste.....Eating squid in the fashion that your mom said means the squid is over cooked.....Calamari is squid and its great!!!

You should try anchovies and squid never know you might like them

Anchovies are very salty. Sometimes I crave them on a pizza or Cesar salad. Fried squid can be good if not over cooked. Try fried crawfish tails, the are great.

Yes squid isnt very good. And Anchovies are very salty.

I personally think anchovies are gross, but I am sure there are people that like them. As far as squid, I had calamari a few times and it's actually pretty good when it's breaded and deep-fried and cooked correctly.

I like anchovies on my pizza, but never really get to have them because no one else likes them. They are a bit salty, but placed nicely on a pizza ..... the flavor is wonderful. Never had squid tho .......

I love both. Anchovies are really versatile and can be used to add depth to dishes like beef stew or roast lamb - not just on pizzas. My favourite pasta dish contains anchovies.

Squid is delicious too, it's got a very sweet taste but ( like others have said ) you need to take care when you cook it. It should either be cooked very fast or very slow, otherwise, yes, it can be rubbery. It is really good value for money though and it freezes well. My favourite squid dish is Chinese Salt and Chilli Squid.

Ive never had squid. But I love anchovies on my pizza.

Your mum is right about the squid. The main secret is on the frying pan. It has to be on a higher temperature than normal frying and then you put the squid for a short time. You put a sieve like lid on top so a not to get splashed by the oil.
Anchovies is an acquired taste and you either lie it or you don't.
The best anchovies are the ones from Kalloni bay in Mytiline Greece. You will not find tastier ones. Is on account of the waters there.

Squid is only like chewing rubber if it is overcooked.

I like calamari rings (quid rings fried in batter with a chilli oil over them, so tasty) and I love anchovies on my pizza.

Anchovies taste salty so mind not to eat too many! And, you don't have to worry about the bones either because they're so tiny and chewable.
