Does anyone have a good recipe for homemade ketchup?!

Question: I am a strict vegan and I heard they put cows blood in it to give it flavor so I will not eat it. I know you are going to go look at your ketchup bottle and it won't be shown as an ingredient but trust me it is in there.

OMG! Poor cows!

...but, if I put it on my burger, it balances itself out.

Well yes I do have a recipe, but the blood thing is an old wives tale; don't believe it. They would have to list it on the ingredients if it was in there.

You can also find brands in the Natural Foods stores like Muir Glen and Westbrae that certainly don't have anything like that.

That being said, I like:

1 1/2 teaspoons cumin seeds
3/4 cup tomato paste
1 tsp onion powder
2 tbs white vinegar
2 tbs agave nectar
1 1/2 teaspoons chopped canned chipotle chilies plus 1 tablespoon spicy tomato sauce reserved from can
1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1 tablespoon tequila
salt & pepper to taste

Stir cumin seeds in heavy small saucepan over medium heat until fragrant and seeds darken, about 1 minute. Transfer to plate and cool. Grind seeds in spice grinder or in mortar with pestle.

Return cumin to same saucepan. Whisk in ketchup, chipotle chilies with 1 tablespoon spicy tomato sauce, lime juice and tequila. Simmer over medium-low heat until ketchup thickens slightly, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Makes 3/4 Cup

Psh, just cuz blood is red doesn't mean it tastes like ketchup...

I think you're gullible,

Although i do see your vegetarian status as a good form of discipline.

Meat for life, bro.
