We always do turkey for T-day. But it's not necessary, it's more about the spirit of the holiday. Like one year my former mother in law forgot to turn the oven on! And the whole family was already there, side dishes done, so she called in for pizzas and I and my brother in law's girlfriend went to pick them up. The whole family got a big kick out of having pizza for T-day, but it boiled down to the fact that we were all together and laughing and celebrating Thanksgiving.

a ham or even a pork roast works

i agreee.
i cant seee a thanksgiving with out turkey.
in every coloring picture of banner with thanks giving. you always see a TURKEY not chicken =]

thanksgiving is an AMERICAN holiday. so its mandatory to eat turkey.

Sometimes

But even if there is no turkey, I'd eat a turkey sandwich.

yes

Yes my family has had it with:
taco buffet
all italin food
Chicken
A mix
Ham
and even a couple Turkey Year.

We usually have Turkey, but one years we have Lamb because we had visitors from Greece. it was nice..

I have to have a turkey on thanksgiving.

Unless the turkey is the one giving the Thanksgiving blessing...then YES...Thanksgiving is still Thanksgiving without a turkey. Thanks is in your heart...not on the table....
