What does the term "haute cuisine" mean, and who created it? In the 19th century, master chef Marie-Antoine Carême created the term haute cuisine (high cooking) for the best French cooking.

This same person also invented the toque (the high white hat that is part of the chef's uniform).

A good question i asked a highschool student (im in middle schoo) that they got wrong was.... How did fench toast origanly come around?....... The answer is fench toast was made from leftover bread that bakers fried and ate for breakfast in the bakeries instead of throwing them away. :) hope this helped
