Why is it when I store cheese in my fridge in a Ziploc bag?!
Answers: It starts to get moldy and a sweaty smell develops which makes the whole piece of cheese inedible. I have to throw it away. How can I store cheese longer and stop it from developing this smell?
Serving and Storage Tips
Keep cheese wrapped in waxed paper and place it in a loose-fitting food-bag not to lose humidity and maintain the circulation of air.
Cheeses contain living organisms that must not be cut off from air, yet it is important not to let a cheese dry out.
Do not store cheese with other strong-smelling foods. As a cheese breathes it will absorb other aromas and may spoil.
Wrap soft cheeses loosely. Use waxed or greaseproof paper rather than cling film.
Buy the double zip lock bag. And put it on the farthest top of fridge so water precipitation does not drop from top to bottom onto the cheese.
Only soft cheeses like Brie should be stored in plastic-for hard and semi-hard cheese use aluminum foil-this will prevent the mold.
i always use cling film or foil as it keeps longer keep in coolest part of fridge, you can freeze cheese
good luck
Put in the hefty bags! they always survive for me.
This is one of those times that a vacuum pack machine comes in very handy. I put all my hard cheeses in a bag and seal it with the foodsaver. I have had cheeses that have survived for months. Handy gadget that is.
Pack your hard cheese wax paper then inside cling film or a bag before zipping it.
Good luck.
Grate up your cheese when you first get it and freeze it...this way you can take out what you need when you need it...and it'll last soooooo much longer
