The apparent end of the traditional British pudding?!
The average British household now eats a classic hot pud less than once each year

Answers: Thirty years ago no British meal was complete without a traditional hot pudding to round it off ... treacle tart, jam roly-poly or spotted dick, usually smothered with gloopy yellow custard

I think we need a revival here!! I love good English puds, I think that too many people are health conscious, too many calories, too much sugar!
Maybe we should re run their survey on here? Report It

So much for grauniad readers, just love my suet puds and will never give them up.
all i can say is i am not one of them
you got to have a hot pud after a roast
its like the law
I'd like to know from whence their info came - it's rubbish! We have a proper pud EVERY day, so that alone would bugger up their stats ! ! !
You can actually make custard or crème anglaise without Bird's custard powder.
I like apple or rhubarb crumble, treacle tart and syrup sponge.
I never liked roly-poly - at school we called it dead man's leg, and they made a steamed pudding with marmalade which I hated so much I could hardly swallow it. The teachers made the whole school wait for me to finish my pud! The joys of private education!
I do a "good pudding" at least once a week - sometimes it is a fancy ice cream/roulade/baked alaska type but once a month its a good "pudding" B&B or Suet, Steamed sponge or Rice ( with jam!) Apple pie or crumble.
It's up to individuals to uphold British traditions and this is certainly one area which can't be legislated for. As 9th November is British Pudding day, why not do your bit to protect part of our heritage and cook one! There are loads of British pudding recipes at www.recipes4us.co.uk.
