Sav-A-Lot or Aldi's? Which is the better discount grocer?!
Answers: Where we live, it's Save-A-Lot. The quality of the food is better (the Save-A-Lot brands taste better than most commercial brands), and the prices are the same or lower. In my neighborhood, the Save-A-Lot is also a cleaner store. We live in western Michigan.
save a lot..
they dont charge you for SHOPPING BAGS!!
ALDI`S ANY DAY ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like Save a lot there alot better store, everything is more organized there!
Sav-a-lot!! You can't be discount when you have to pay for bags and carts!!
save a lot i have to say but i dont buy the meat there.
Aldi's is much better. They actually have nice products, even if they aren't name brand. I love their chocolate. Besides, making people pay for grocery bags is more environmentally responsible, because then people are less likely to throw them out.
Save alot Its amuch bigger chain and allows for better pricing canned goods are its forte, fruits and vegetables must be consumed quickly or they go bad, always check the expiration dates on the products
I have become a faithful shopper of Aldi. I think for the buck, they are better. Yes, you do have to bag your own stuff, and buy the bags, but why not just save the bags from previous trips, and reuse them? Hello, then you are not paying for new ones each time. When you see more people of all economic brackets shopping at Aldi, you know they see the value, savings of shopping there. Also, did you know they are owned by Trader Joe's? That also is an endorsement. Save your money and sannity and just shop there.
Aldi's They rock
I like them both.
They have different items.
Save a lot has better meat.
Aldi has better produce.
The canned brands are all about the same.
Aldis's is a better story for all your needs when you are on a fix income.save -a-lot is as well but to me Aldis's is better they have way better prices.another story you can check out is food for less they have some good deals too.if you like to buy thing by the box.some times those things you buy by the box last longer and is a much better price.which every one you decide is best for you.
Aldi's
Personally, I enjoyed both of them for bargains but ALDI has a limit selection noth as good as SAVE A LOT. However, these stores can vary on various items. ALDI snacks seem to be better than SAVE A LOT. SAVE A LOT has a great soda selection compared to ALDI. I think the GRAINGER, and the B BARB brand steaks are great buys I live on a fixed income, and if one is careful, a low fat diet can be followed, now that they have fat reduced mayo. I really love to save money on groceries so I shop around a lot for good sales and also clip coupons. If you look for sales at your local grocery store and clip coupons, especially if the store doubles the coupons, I don’t think Aldi’s will save you that much money. There is not a wide selection and the brands are “off brands.” Also, I don’t like having to bring bags to the store with me for them to bag my groceries. The other option is to pay for bags, or use boxes and pack everything yourself, everything is set up on pallets, shopping carts are chained together and you put in a quarter to get one out, and have to put the cart back to get your quarter back which I really do not like. Both are a discount grocery stores....kind of different. ..anyway, the prices are soooo cheap, I have cut my grocery bill in half or more. They sell milk at ours for 1.89 a gallon, all other places are almost $3 a gallon. I love it! But....I have heard of people not liking it, like saying the produce was not fresh. Or they just don't like the way it is set up. Or thought that the brands were too weird. My husband and I had the same questions when we first went to Save A Lot. We don't buy certain items there (unfortunately like bananas) because they come from companies we don't agree with (Chiquita or Dole), but this not unique to Save A Lot and we avoid these brands everywhere. Suprisingly, most of the stuff at Save A Lot is a good deal not because of sneaky corporations but because of how they purchase only in certain sizes and certain types of food. For example, they only carry one size and one brand of cornmeal, which they have found to be the most commonly purchased size and type desired by customers, they buy in bulk by the least expensive supplier they can find. This way they don't have the over head of a store which sells multiple brands and sizes. They have some interesting information about this on their website, and we investigated it before adding it to our monthly grocery stop. Now we regularly buy our oatmeal, cornmeal, raisins, prunes, white flour, and frozen veggies from there. The quality is fine by us, no lower than the more expensive stuff we buy at the grocery store, and since these are foods we use a lot, we save a bundle over all. In fact, the grains and dried fruit we buy at Save A Lot are incredibly cheaper than we could get them in 50 lb bags from our Health Food Store. Go figure
