Ever Eaten Wild Boar?!

Question: Have you tried eating wild boar? I bought some sausages from a farmers market a while back, I hated them but the rest of the family enjoyed them. They had a really strong flavour, not to my liking.Just wondering if anyone else had tried this unusual meat.

yes,it is a stronger flavour as it is "wild" not factory bred.As achef i wish the public would start using more "wild"/local meats+fish. You can create fantastic meals with simple ingredients.

Never

Not yet! I've had crocodile, though, which I liked.

yes beautful if cooked fresh

I had wild boar suasages too and thought they were a bit heavy.

I've also had a joint from a wild boar in a very good restaurant and it was one of the best meals i've ever had, it was fantastic.
I know the boar was from a farm local to the restaurant so it would have been very fresh.

yea ive had wild boar its lovely , ive also had crocodile ribs a few years ago that was nice

i've never eaten boar.
although, i have eaten chicken -- how exotic, beat that!

Very strong & bitter.... didn't like it at all!

Yes, as a paté. Quite strong and needs just to be eaten little bits at a time.

Yes, as a roast and also in sausage, both times cider had been used to sweeten the meat and it was delicious!

yes but not in the UK as there are not a lot of wild boar in the country

yup i have and thought they were pretty tasty- got them last xmas at a xmas market in edinburgh-ice cold winters morning and they were cooking on an open grill-maybe it was the fact they were warm and smelt so good they tasted better.... but as i always say EACH TO THEIR OWN CAUSE IF WE WERE ALL THE SAME WE WOULD BE BORING!!

no ad ostrich steak an venison

Oh yes!
I worked in Algeria some time back with a crowd of American fellers.
One of their pastimes was to go wild boar hunting, I was never into this hunting thing.
They had a really successful trip one day and had loads of meat to spare, they gave me a big lump of this stuff, I handed it to my wife and told her it was the same as pork.
She cooked it the same as a lump of pork, it tasted horrendous , the crackling (which I love) came out like a soggy flannel covered in big black hairs !!
Never again.
While I have your attention:-
In the same place (Algeria) I went to the local market and spotted some great looking steaks, bought a load , another disaster, it was horse meat, also never again.
How was I supposed to know they ate horses, my Arabic was very poor, my French non existent.

Wild pig meat is strong and delicious. Ostrich is good, as is crocodile and snake, but the best meat I ever tasted (in Hong Kong - an error when ordering) was dog (I didn't find out until it had been devoured) by which time it was too late to be squeamish!

Wild boar isn't that much different than pork, just not so much fat. I like it.

Definately, in Italy is common, or at least in Florence (where I'm from).
We make even prosciutto out of it and iy is really good, especially ragu' al cinghiale (wild boar meat sauce)
