How do I add colour to my cotton candy?!
Answers: I have a cotton candy machine, and I use Granualted sugar and It works fine, but I just get plain white cones of cotton candy. I would love cute pinks, blues and yellows but don't know what to use? any ideas? I was told not to use drops of food colouring as that could clump the sugar and cause problems. Any Answers would be much appreciated =]
SImple, use pixi sticks, they work the same as the plain suger, and give you awesome colors ^_^ It helps if you can find a bulk store that sells the large ones, a few of those and you have a carnival cotten candy ^_^
Plus if you look online you can probably get it even cheeper^_^
You're right about the water/alcohol-based food coloring. You should use the powdered food coloring that you can only find at restaurant supply stores.
DML had a great answer about the pixie sticks, by the way! That'll be easier and probably tangy-er too!
you can add colourings but you need to dry the sugar out in a low oven for example
Try adding the food coloring to the sugar and waiting for the mixture to dry. Then smush to get the sugar un-clumped and use in your machine.
Have fun!
before you put the sugar inside add 1 drop of food coloring into the sugar. stir it untill it just feels like sugar. the sugar should be kinda colored the way you want it. when you mix it the color will come out more

Where do you live? Is there a Maine's store or maybe a GSF store anywhere close to you? They have colored sugar available for a reasonable price. They also have flavored sugar availlable.
Try google to see if they have a food warehouse listed nearby.
food dye
there is a special syrup you add to that. and it is added just after putting in the sugar. It will last through about 5 pounds of sugar.
However if you use the food coloring it doesn't change the sugar into clumps much. Then I would put the sugar into a canning jar or zip lock bag and shake it very well. Coloring the sugar is an old baking trick for use on cakes and cookies.
You have to use colored sugar to get the desired color. The suggestion of using pixie sticks is a good one because then you will also be adding a flavor to the cotton candy. I would only use one or maybe two of the pixie sticks and the rest just colored sugar that you can buy at any candy/cake decorating supply store (like Micheal's). Otherwise it may be way tooo sweet. And cotton candy is sweet enough on its own.
