How do I get store bought bread crumbs to stick?!
Can anyone tell me how I get store bought bread crumbs to stick to the fish...do I need to dip the fish in a liquid first (like water, milk, eggs and milk) and then pat the bread crumbs on the fish? If so, what should I use?
Help, I have about 1 1/2 hours before my wife gets home!
Thanks
Answers: I'm cooking fish tonight ( filleted grouper) and would like to fry them in a little bit of olive oil.

using an egg wash would be the best way. scramble an egg and either dip the fish or brush the wash on the part of the fish you want crumbs and your done.
put it in eggss
egg wash, let it sit for about 5 minutes them dip the fish into the crumbs again.
use egg, get whatever ur using, dip it in egg, and then in the bread crumbs
yes dip it in milk and then roll it in a bowl of bread crumbs
I'd use eggs.. dip the fish in the egg and then pat the bread crumbs on.
eggs
yes, rinse your fish in water and the bread crumbs will stick and hold while baking or frying.
coat in flour, then egg yolk then roll in the breadcrumbs...
enjoy ya meal
milk or buttermilk.
Traditionally: Flour then Eggs then Bread crumbs. (But eggs alone will work fine too).
Good Luck!
dip the fish in beaten egg first then roll through the breadcrumbs or sprinkle good luck!
beat an egg dip the fish in it. Then dip in bread crumbs
you will need to make sure the fish is moist enough for the bread crumbs to stick...the best thing to use is just a beaten egg with a touch of milk added to it....dip it in a bit of flour first, then the egg and then the bread crumbs :)
Good luck!
Beat one egg with 1/4 cup of water or milk. Dip the fish into the mixture, then the bread crumbs.
I highly recommend that you try Panko Japanese Bread Crumbs. They are much lighter and tastier than regular bread crumbs, especially on fish.
you coat the fish in raw egg and then dip it in the bread crumbs on both sides. Then cook thoroughly.
Awesome husband.
Any liquid will work - eggs or milk work best. Eggs will "cook" when you fry them so it will add a nice crunch.
BTW - When is dinner?
basic 3 stage breading procedure: flour, egg wash, bread crumbs. season fish, dust with flour, dip into egg wash(beaten eggs and milk) then crumbs.
Mix about equal parts egg and milk. Depends on how thick you want the breading and how much oil you use.
light breading/ oil: dip egg wash then crumbs.
heavier breading/ more oil: crumbs then egg-then crumbs again
egg, works good on fish.
roll the fish in flour, then egg wash. it works every time! i think your wife will appreciate you cooking for her, even if it comes out not so good. don't stress over it so much
Use the 3-pan method. Get a bowl, fill it halfway with flour. Second bowl, eggs, beaten and add a little milk to it. Third bowl, use the bread crumbs. Dip the fish in the flour, and tap lightly to get the excess flour off. This will help the egg to stick to the fish better. Dip in eggs, let drip for a few secs, then roll in the crumbs. Almost all restaurants that do scratch cooking use this method for breaded whatever they serve, from chicken to fish to onion rings.
Tried and true....First lightly coat your filets in seasoned flour, then dip them eggs that have been well beaten with milk. Then coat with your breadcrumbs. The flour has gluten, which binds with protein in the eggs creating a sort of "glue" to which your breadcrumbs get stuck to once the filets hit the oil. This creates the nice breading you want when making breaded fish, or anything breaded for that matter. Hope this helps.
