Is it okay to keep peanut butter in the cupboard after it's open?!
Answers: My mom always did when I was growing up but on the label it says "keep refrigerated". Also the same thing for maple syrup?
Name-brand peanut butter will be fine without refrigeration. As someone already noted, "natural" peanut butter without preservatives should be refrigerated. It will separate and get stiff as hell, but you need to stir the oil on top back into it. That's a pretty compelling reason to use Peter Pan, Jif, or Skippy, IMO.
Once I had pancake syrup get some mold on it. It had been in the cupboard for at least five or six years after opening. I still keep syrup in the cupboard except for genuine 100% maple syrup (which most syrup isn't), because the bottle says to refrigerate after opening. As expensive as it is, I'm taking no chances.
Skippy or Peter Pan (or any other common brand).....yes
Fresh Ground no (no preservatives) and it will spoil without refrigeration
It will tell you on most jars
I keep both peanut butter and syrup in the cupboard - I've never had a problem w/ either one going bad.
never had to it, makes the peanut butter to hard!!
growing up my parents always kept it in the cupboard same with the syrup and honey... i dont see nothing wrong with it, it didnt kill us then it's not gonna kill us now ;)
Agree with floriflo, I've always left both in the cupboard and they can stay there for MONTHS without getting spoiled.
I've been eating peanut butter stored in cupboards for 40 years and never had a problem.
Yes.....I have always done that @ I haven't died yet....so I would presume it's fine. I don't like hard peanut-butter.
I have always kept peanut butter and maple syrup in the cupboard. In the fridge, peanut butter gets too hard, and syrup gets way too thick (It also makes the pancakes and/or waffles cold).
on both you can put in the cupboard. I do. Only thing with the maple syrup you have to watch it. otherwise it is more sugary.
Yea, it shouldn't be
a problom :)
Yes it is fine for maple syrup or Peanut Butter ( I am certified in food handling for the City of NY) Only issue is how long.
It should not be in the sun or indirect sun light. And it should not be stored longer than 3 or 4 weeks. if you think you wont be using it with in that time (I use very little maple syrup at a time) then you should refrigerate and the products shelf life is greatly enhanced.
It doesn't matter what brand....just keep in mind...the less preservatives, the shorter shelf...I would not keep "Fresh" Peanut butter longer then 2 weeks outside the Fridge...
Enjoy!
If its Jiffy, Peter Pan, or one of the ones that have preservatives in them, then you can just leave them on the shelf. If its fresh ground with no preservatives, you have to keep it in the fridge.
We keep it in the pantry... otherwise, we can't spread it! I love the swirled PB&J together, but you've got to refrigerate it for the jelly part, and the PB gets too hard. :-(
yes ..cause if you keep it in the fridge it is hard to spread..
