HELP!! I only have $3.50 for 1 week. What type of food should I buy?!

Question: I put myself in a big jam. I spent my entire paycheck yesterday at the bar drinking. I don't get paid until next Wednesday. I have no food in my house. I have $3.50, actually I have 9 cents stashed away for rainy days...I consider this a hurricane I am going through! So, my food budget is $3.59. What should I buy to last me 1 week? and no, I aint gonna ask anyone to borrow money nor am I going to shoplift. I was caught shoplifting twice already in the past 5 months. I was considering buying 12 bags of Top Ramon that cost 25 cents a bag. I have 7 days till my next paycheck :). Would you buy 12 Top Ramons if you only had $3.59? You have any other suggestions? It's getting near lunch time for me and I am hung over and hungry. Please help with some suggestions on what I should buy to last me 1 week. thanks!!!

ramen is indvidually packaged and more costly than rice in bulk. go to a store and buy a boatload of rice and eat it with salt or get soy sauce package from fast food places. 3.59 worth of white rice goes a awful loooong way. do like the poor old viets used to do...

If I were you, I would go with the Ramen. It's probably going to be the most food you'll get with the money you have. Or you could check out the sales and possibly get some canned food?

Top ramon is all I can think of that is filling. maybe a loaf of bread to make toast too.

ya, top ramen, canned soup(there are always special) eggs, box of cereal and milk, cambelles tomato soup woult be good. Oh, try costco, free samples!

yep top ramon is the answer

Look, I have blown my check at the bar too, I eventually got sick of it and promised not to do that again.

It worked and now I don't go hungry.

might be able to buy a banana

keep to starches, they are the cheapest

You can usually buy store brand mac and cheese for 2 for $1...but you wouldn't be able to buy milk...so it would just be powdered cheese and water.

ramen noodles, hot dogs, or soup.

Still, I would better combine getting credited and NOT drinking afterwards, instead of surviving on near to nothing (couldn't that lead to you doing your job not good enough?).

You got job, that much you are fine. You drink more, than you should - this is real problem. Just shift money in time, you solve money part. Other part is harder to solve, but I managed to be mostly dry for over month, after starting to feel pain in the liver, I believe, after alcohol intake - and I was moderate drinker. Hopefully this can help you decide on that other problem. Besides, that film helped me understand things along: "Happy hour".

As to the food: my observation is, that it is better to buy NOT single kind of it, but have variety - this is important, as one sort becomes less and less effective to fight hunger starting with second use in row. If you can buy multiple times, prefer to have some money and decide then for the next steps. Maybe you can help somebody with odd job meanwhile, too.

Good luck!

If you have a bulk food store this would work best, but if not this is what I recommend (and this is assuming prices in my grocery)

The largest bag of rice you can find in the range of your budget (about $1.00) [Bulk Starch]
1 16 oz. can tomato sauce ($.50) [Flavor]
And the cheapest cut of meat you can find for $2.00 (you need to go to the butcher and tell him your predicament of having only $2.00 for meat and what is the cheapest thing he can prep for you for exactly $2.00. You will probably get almost a pound of "something" for this price)
OR
$2.00 in dried beans if you can find it instead of meat [protein]

The rice alone should last you the entire week (assuming you only eat a bowl for every meal), if you add any good spices to it or maybe have or ketchup you can make the tomato flavor go a long way with a bag of rice, meat (or beans). Enjoy!

The ramen in the end will leave you really hungry. If you really want to go that route see if you can't get a bag a rice to cook up on the side to add to the ramen for bulk.

Oh yeah, by the way this actually requires you to cook from scratch. Soak beans over night in tons of water before cooking for 1-1.5 hours. The rice is simple, just use the internet to find out how to cook with "real" ingredients.

If you have a bread house you could go there because they have bread specials like one bag of bread which has 6 loafs in it for like $1.65 but if you don't have a bread house in your town buy some Ramon's and a loaf of bread. I have been down to no money and just crackers and half a pack of Bologna and I had to chose between feeding my baby or me you know I picked my baby. You need to stop going to the bars on payday and think about what you need for yourself .
Only you have to think about yourself. As long as you have money you have friends, so please start thinking about yourself & home first . I can see if you pick up some liquor while you go shopping for food. I hope I helped you out.May God bless & keep you.

8 bags of ramen noodles, 1 small package of chicken or pork - look for specials, ask the butcher to make you a special package for a dollar or so. I have found they will work with you. you can chop up any meat you get and add to the side of your noodles.
OR
buy a store brand mac&cheese, 1 small package of hamburger meat, brown your burger, salt & pepper, add water and simmer your mac into this liquid, add the cheese and margarine, put it into a pan and bake, eat that all week.
OR
small package of hamburger, 2 potatoes, brown burger, cover with water, cube potatoes and add into hamburger, grab any canned or frozen veggies you may have, ketchup, make a soup. You can always add more into this soup as you came across them.

Use the $3.50 for bus fare to the homeless shelter or soup kitchen .......... use your brain next time. Where the heck is your family, aunts, cousins, friends .......... you can't get a meal from them?

i would suggest a box of storebrand oats (not instant). If you can squeeze a pound of hamburger out of it too, then mix the two together and add ketchup and a bit of worcesterchire sauce to make a meatloaf. you won't tast the oats and it will stretch the meat. Bake it in the oven like a meatloaf. If you live near some cattails, go cut the interconnecting rhyzomes as those are edible too. They can be eaten raw; peel the ousides first. Or, just buy a 10 lb bag of potatoes and a tub of margarine and eat those for a week with salt and pepper. I've done that too.
