Have you noticed that onions never make you cry anymore? Are they being genetically altered?!

Question: Onions don't put off those strong fumes any more like they did 20 or 30 years ago.
And don't say it's because i'm used to them, because they used to make my mother and grandmother cry too, and they practically lived in the kitchen.
Now, you can eat an onion like an apple almost, and they don't have any smell.
What are they doing to our crops???

Hmm! now that you mentioned it , I have noticed that, as to why, I don't know but they also don't seem to be as crunchy as they used to be, perhaps they have more moisture in them. I think it started about the time they started spraying water on the veggies in the stores, and even though they aren't directly sprayed, I suspect they are affected .

They still make ME cry.

Do you keep your onions in the fridge? That reduces the odour...

I've noticed this too. Maybe they are fresher? My mom used to have bags of onions. I only buy 2 or three at a time.

That's because most people like sweet onions like Vidaleas, and Texas sweet onions. Get a grip if you want to cry over onions buy some small yellow onions and cry your heart out.

Sorry to rain on your parade, they still make me tear up.

Do you perhaps wear contacts. I used to tear up till i went to contacts and haven't since. same with a couple of my friends.

theres different types of onions. not all are bad tear jerkers. onions make you cry because when you cut into them it causes a reaction that is released as a defense mechanism thingy. if you use a sharper knife you damage less cells, if you run it under cold water, less tears too. i dont think they alter them perhaps it has to do with how old it is or how long its been chillin in your fridge.
