Bleu cheese is moldy cheese....why is it safe to eat then?!

Question: Don't get me wrong. I love bleu cheese! But how come you can eat moldy cheese but not moldy bread?

Answers: Don't get me wrong. I love bleu cheese! But how come you can eat moldy cheese but not moldy bread?

You can eat SOME of the mold on some cheeses, but not ALL 'cheese mold.' Any 'blue' or 'green' cheese you buy WITH the mold in it, is good ... this mold is specially grown and watched carefully so it never gets any 'toxins' in it. Other mold can be toxic. I've eaten moldy white bread and the only thing that happened was it didn't taste good. I ate moldy rye bread, and I had hallucinations ... similar to LSD but MUCH, MUCH WORSE, and then I threw up. Some mold is good to eat, other mold is very bad to eat, even toxic, for any number of reasons. It's the same as mushrooms ... some are good to eat, others can kill a person or make them very, very ill.

Good question, I love it too!

i hate blue cheese :/

mold contains penicillin.

You can eat moldy bread. It won't hurt you, provided it's just surface fungus and not actual rotting.

And there are different types of mold and fungi. Mushrooms are fungi and we eat those.

It's a different, good type of mold.

not all mold is bad for you... l looove blue cheese too!

for the same reason that penicillin was made from a mould there are good and bad parts

becuase its not the kind of mold that will kill you its the kind of mold thats in the early stages and just gives it flavor not poison

Probably because it is cultured mold. Why can you eat yogurt but not clabbered milk?

If you eat organic moldy bread it has the same effects as acid.

For the same reason you can eat yogurt but not a year old milk!

What's on blue cheese or any furmented product is basically "mold" but they are certain kind of mold that is not harmful to humans. They are seeded and grown in controlled environment, where-as the mold we might create is just-any-mold (we don't know what or where they came from).

There are a millions of kinds of molds, some bad, some safe, and some that are even good for you.

Yogurt is a living bacteria! It's hibernating in the packet but when you eat it, it comes a alive in your stomach, and it good for you!

I don't like blue cheese, it's not bad to eat moldy bread, it just tastes bad. Does bleu cheese have mold on it that gives it that tase?
whatever, whatever

Different species of mold. Plus it's not very lively when you eat it.

Blue cheese contains Penicillium....(like penicillin), this culture does not hinder human digestion. Lots of cultures can actually benefit overall health (remember yogurt and other cheeses)

Moldy bread is caused by a non-sterile environment and is uncontrolled. Most mold cultures are aiding the decomposition process. Things in your fridge or in your cupboard which smell funny or show signs of decomposition can be harmful if ingested.

You never quite know what could be growing on your bread.

cheese like other dairy's creates positive mold (good 4 u), it works in the same way as actimel.

blue chesse mold is good mold... bread mold is bad mold... same thing as good fat and bad fat

Because its a kind of mold that is safe for us to digest. All cheese has a mold factor. Thats how it becomes cheese. Yogurt too. The problem with moldy bread is that its a type of mold that can cause illness.
