What chemical is sprayed on apples to keep them form turning brown?!

Question: I love that McDonald's has some more healthy snack selections. In particular I enjoy the fruit and walnut salad. I know that they must spray some type of chemical to keep the apples from turning brown. I bought a pack today 11/16 they will be considered edible until 11/28... That sounds chemically modified to me.

The apples might have been soak in a water & lemon juice mixture, or anti- browning solution made with Vitimin C ( Ascorbic acid ) which is added to many foods not just for it nutritive value, but extensively as an anti-oxidant, and to prevent flavors and colors from being damaged by oxidation. It is widely used used in canned and frozen fruits to prevent the browning that accompanies oxidation.

lemon juice

not too sure but anything with a lot of citric acid will do it...
try lemon juice or 7-up

im not sure. but lemon juice keeps apples from turning brown.

Don't buy fruit at mcdonalds........watch the documentary supersize me, you will see even their salads are horrible for you.

The chemical is usually lemon juice or citric acid (vitamin C). The acids help prevent browning in fruit like apples, pears, avocados, bananas, etc.

10% urea which is usually sprayed weekly.

uhm i dont personally eat at mcdonalds alot because my mom read this health book and uhm u dont kno wat their foods do to u an u most likely dont want to (...) but other than that i don really know the answer but im guessing something nasty

Don't buy food from McDOna;d's; it's actually NEVER healthy. Even with with the salads and fruit and other so-called 'healthy' stuff, they add lots of sugar and it's still bad for you.

any kind of citrus or lemon-like juice!!

just soak it for about 10 minutes

=]

calcium and vitamin A. not lemon juice because it has a after taste

I'm sure they couldn't legally spray any chemicals on the apples to keep them from turning. A little lemon juice (probably comes in a fine spray for this purpose) will keep them from turning brown. They probably don't make up too many ahead of time. A trend toward healthier or not... I still wouldn't eat at a McDonalds.

Why you want brown apples?
