Is there any real difference between a famous food brand and a supermarket's own?!

Question: I heard they are even made by the same people!

Answers: I heard they are even made by the same people!

I live in an agricultural area. There are some major canneries here. Most name brand foods are exactly the same. The canneries run off X number of cans with store 1 labels, and X number of cans with famous brand labels, right out of the same vat.

Sometimes off brand name labels are put on products that are off colored, lack salt or sugar, or otherwise not up to market standards, but usually that involves someone having made an error during the the processing stage.

no not really much if any difference I always have used store brand dishwasher detergent and like the product better than name brand stuff i've used that leaves residue

some of the foods I can notice a difference (I shop at Meijer, or Walmart)
but cleaning products, or house hold products are good, I always love a bargain

Often they are pretty close. You have to learn by trial-and-error which supermarket products you like.

Sometimes in taste or quality. You don't know till you try. I find some store brands even better than the name brand counter part. For instant some cereal have less sugar and sodium buying the store brand. No corn syrup in some store brand juice boxes etc.

Packaging. and cost of marketing and advertising.

Some children will swear there is a difference in the taste even when they know that it is made by the same factory.

It is true. As consumers, we rely heavily on our perception of what is good and bad based on advertising.

No, not a real difference, some store brands aren't good at all, but I usually buy store brands, and what I don't like will buy name brands. It's your own preference.

Depends on the food. But usually, there is no noticable difference. Check the ingredients...if they are the same, then chances are they taste the similar.
Brand names are usually more expensive because you are paying as much as 30% more for their advertising costs.

The stuff that I have tried had slight taste differences. Some for the better. You'll just have to give them a try and see what you think.

I have heard of some generic products being manufactured by the same people as the name brand stuff.

you will find that companies like kellogs/heinz etc will use 2nd grade ingredients process and package them and sell them on to the supermarket own brand lines

Some store brands I like and others I don't. I realize that some are made by the name brand companies but I have found differences in taste and quality. I remember a store brand of corn that you could not cook long enough to be tender. I buy many store brands at Walmart that I am happy with.

Yes & no, depends on the item. Wal-Mart brand sweetner is $5.00 & Splenda is $7.00 & they are identical to me. Can't stand Wal-Mart brand lite mayonnaise but I really like Winn-Dixie brand. If I am having company I'll probably use Helman's but here in Louisiana people like a cheap brand called Blue Plate. Just depends. I only use Clorox bleach, no off brands. I find off brand salad dressings & crackers are really different from name brand. If I am having company I use name brand unless I have already tried the off brand.

I am a former chef and agree with all of those involved, the scottish and proud guy is of his nut, but then??

I have toured palces were generic foods are preapred, and true some are made by famous name companys, Quaker make alot of store brand products, and here in Canada a company named Cott Beverages makes all the generic store brand soft drinks for the grocery business in Ontario, even Sams Club.

They do not use less quality ingredients it is just because of patent laws they cannot make things taste like Coke, Chef-Boyardee and Wonder breads, the same ingredients are used but alot of time not in the same proportions and maybe one is remved for that reason.

Most store brand or generic food like bread, dairy, canned and meat products have to be as good as name brand or they would sit on the hselves and no one would buy them, so shop with confidence that your buying some good, but a bit less expensive for you and your family, saving money and maing good purchasing choices.
