How do you improve the atmosphere in an eating establishment?!
Answers: What are things you can do in a restaurant to improve the atmosphere? What are colors, music, lighting, and other SPECIFIC things I can do to make people feel comfortable and hungry?
Customer service: being greeted with someone that looks smart in the restaurant uniform, is confident and friendly. Asks questions like where would you like to be seated, have you eaten here before etc?
Lighting: Need the lighting to be vibrant but not too much, not too dim that you can't see your food but not too bright that it doesn't feel relaxed and sociable.
Music: Popular music maybe a couple of months old, just playing in the background (even if it is just to fill the silence between a couple on a first date!).
Colours: Nothing dull but not over imaginitive, go with a theme and stick to it but be careful not to go OTT. Some theme's are: Australian outback, rustic look and well known dishes (steaks, chargrilled, bbq, salad food). Italian tradition, nice art work, historic (pasta, pizza, red wine, mozerella & parmasan!). Mexican: big hats, bright red paint (fajitas, guacamole, chilli, burgers)
Plants make people feel good. Think nature, old world... Not sure about increasing their appetite?
A fake fireplace for evening dining, soft music (not R&R),a comfortable seating area for diners waiting to be seated, small candles on the tables, a dimmer switch for the lights. Also don't have tables too close to the door because the draft is uncomfortable when you are sitting there and the noise from entering/exiting customers.
I'm not an expert on this, but I love to eat out.
1) For me, the chair have to comfortable..paddind is a plus. Feeling relaxed makes customers happy and probably spend more. But, careful not to have huge chairs that make you have to seat to far from the table.
2) I don't like the lighting to be very bright...especially right over my table. Soft lighting is nice.
3) For some reason, dark rich colors such as reds, browns, and burgandy's make me hungry.
4) I like when you can see the chef's cooking; makes me believe the kitchen is clean. But, it could raise the noise level.
5) Music is a must, but not too loud (type of music depends on the type of restaurant). I should be able to have a conversation with people at my table.
6) I like bathrooms far from the main seating area (tucked away in a corner)
7) Ice cold water in my glass at all times, warm bread and butter, and spotless cutlery.
8) Spotlessly CLEAN restaurant...including the bathrooms. If a restaraunt puts effort into keeping it's bathrooms clean, then it make me comfortable that everything else is clean.
