Is cow's milk bad for you? If so, then is soy healthy?!

Question: My mom constantly reads magazines and she had read that drinking cow's milk is harmful because of the lactose intolerance. As a result, she only buys soy milk now. But then she told me that she read another article that soy milk too, can be harmful. So, is cow's milk really bad for you? Is soy milk healthy, or is it bad as well?

It's not really "healthy" or "not healthy". Each one has their ups and downs. Cow's milk is filled with calcium, but along with it comes a little bit of fat. Switch over to soy milk and that fat disappears, yet. Soy milk does have a lot of vitamins and nutrients that regular cow's milk doesn't, though.
My personal opinion; go with soy milk. People don't put cows or goats in crates for 6 months to make the milk taste 1% better to make soy milk. -.-

both milks can be bad for you, humans only agro cultiate cows for a few thousand year, we are not used to milk of any type

1% milk is great for most people. Other alternatives would be soy milk, rice milk and almond milk which taste great and are a add variety. If you can't drink milk make sure you eat calcium supplement and plenty of green leafy vegetables.

...they are both not good....it is much much better if you can find a local healthy dairy that sells raw whole milk...otherwise get a way from it...it can slowly cause problems over the course of many years.

Why would a human drink the milk of a beast?? I have always wondered this, and why does the
US government support the got milk? campaigns?

The actors/actresses in those commercials and ads are not even drinking milk, milk does not appear on a television camera solid so they have to use paste/glue and white paint (it is see-through)...

Recent studies have proven there is less than 1% calcium in cow's milk due to processing chemicals and pesticides used on grass they graze on.

I honestly want to do a study involving the relationship of depressed people and milk drinkers. I believe there are hormones in the milk that cause depression.

BUT ANYWAY, WOULD YOU GET DOWN AND SUCK ON THE UTTER OF A COW SOME SATURDAY MORNING??

NO...

THEN WHY ARE YOU DRINKING THE MILK OF A BEAST??

Drinking cows milk is harmful because of lactose intolerance is only true if you are a lactose intolerant person. Some people put cows milk under scrutiny because of all of the things cows are injected with, like growth hormones, and vaccines. In turn whatever they inject we pretty much drink, and is why the believe that the Midwest tends to have taller people than the rest of the US. I don't know if you should believe everything you read, things tend to change every six months when it comes to dieting and what is good and isn't good for you. I don't think cows milk is bad for you but I know people that drink a lot of it tend to be heavier set, and it can be fattening if you drink whole milk or 2%. Skim or 1 percent is probably better. If you can stand drinking soy milk a lot of people say its healthier but I have tried it and its extremely thin almost like drinking chalky white water. I don't drink milk and Im no healthier than the rest of my family that does.

I also have never known a farmer that sprays his pasture with chemicals or pesticide. I know because I have a pasture in my backyard and the children have played in it for over 10 years and gone through it to get to the creek. There is weeds, there is bugs

Many people are allergic to genetically altered soy. Personally my tongue and lips swell when I consume soy products.
Cow's milk has many nutrients that are good for you. If you are experiencing lactose intolerance that began in the last ten years, it may be that you are responding to the chemicals added to milk.
I grew up on a farm and drank fresh milk back then. I never had any horrible illnesses or problems, even though there was much media that warned against drinking fresh milk.
I often wondered how centuries of people drinking fresh milk survived prior to US legislation passign bills that require pasturizing while looking the other way while hormones and other chemicals are added to our milk.

not everyone is lactose intolerant
not everyone can drink soy either

I've read articles that say soy milk wins hands down and the proteins in cow milk destroy the antioxidants in tea, & coffee since this is how i use milk i switched to soy i think its tasty. and think about how all over asia soy has been popular 4ever they have less heart disease and cancer soy is a main food staple there, like corn is in america. heres an article i've found http://www.goaskalice.columbia.edu/1861....
