Why do people think coffee at starbucks costs $5?!

Question: I am tired of hearing people say things like "I don't go to starbucks cause it costs $5 for regular coffee." It does not. It is less than $2 even for a venti. 7/11, McDonalds, etc. are more expensive.

So how did this confusion ever start? Even the premium espresso drinks would have a hard time reaching $5 unless you added shots and whatnot, and a regular 'ole coffee is again less than $2. I just don't understand this confusion.

I am with you. Its a pisser. I think its all people who have never been to starbucks before. A regular coffee is under $2. A frappuccino with extra whipped cream and chocolate sauce is like $4.00 if you get a big one. An iced Tea is something like $1.35 about the same as at 7-11. Ignorance and fear is why there are some people who don't know....they just take other peoples word for it

They're probably thinking about Frappuccinos.

idk i think people just try to show off or something.

Agreed. Great question. I am not giving up my coffee house!

because those people are rednecks and they do not go to Starbucks.

It may be $1.65 for a Grande drip, but a Venti Macchiato can run up to $4.00....add a couple of flavour shots and bingo, you're at $5.00

Probably because you also get a danish pastry at the same time,

people don't look at all prices usually, they just assume everything is about the same price at a place like that. And since most people don;t order plain ole coffee, the five dollar thing got started.

it doesn't really matter since there coffee isn't really that good. I think they do that on purpose so people will buy the more expensive drinks that at least taste okay.

I have spent some change less than $5 on a coffe from there once. But it was amazing tho.

Probablt because Starbucks was the first well known coffee shop to sell expensive coffee so everyone associates expensive coffee with Starbucks.

I guess they say that because once you break a 5 dollar bill at starbucks it's more or less gone. Also I'm sure they aren't talking about a regular cup of coffee.. latte's and such are more expensive... up to 4 something... so pretty much you might as well consider it 5 after breaking the bill cuz you can't buy anything with the change!

Helpful hint: if you don't want to pay 4 bucks for a good coffee, just ask them for a regular cup, and add a few pumps of your favorite flavoring... it's 30 cents a pump.. i think, and ask them to leave plenty of room for cream. Add half and half and some sugar and the coffee tastes pretty darn good!

Who goes to Starbucks for regular coffee? Every time I've been there, I bought something a bit extravagant. Starbucks should be compared with Dairy Queen treats rather than McDonald's coffee

Well the confusion is from the price it is expencive i have to buy it every day and it is 10 cents less than 5 dollars for a venti carmel frap, just that not anything else added that is the things that people like to buy when they go to starbucks because who wants to buy a reg coffee if they go there? not me and i bet you do not either. so confusion? i think not

Don't really care what it cost......I think Starbuck coffee is terrible, no matter what flavor. The best coffee is made at home.

Maybe they are just Stopid.

People think it's expensive because of ignorance and plain old stupidity.

Unless you get either a really 'modified' drink (extra espresso shots, flavor shot, etc), only the Frappuccino's cost over $5.

Well, I′m living in Spain now and a lot of people say "I don′t go to Starbucks because everything cost 4 euros there (over $ 5)" but isn′t true. Most of the people think in Frappuccino as a regular coffee and don′t understand what Starbucks beverages really are. Regular coffee cost 2.50 (12 US oz)

I know people are so judgmental..I always hear "its not Starbucks its fivebucks....and thats just dumb!!...if your gonna dis something at least do your research so you don't look stupid!!

People all around them probably never get regular coffee so they're thinking of frapachino's

if you get a fancier drink (white chocolate mocha, green tea latte, etc.) its much more expensive. i got a mocha the other day and it cost me $4.20.

Try a Starbucks at the airport and find out...
