The other answers are correct, it has to do with the plastic chemicals. I want to let people know about what i learned about water today in my geology class. Tap water is highly regulated (and safe for this reason). They have to test for fecal matter, e-coli, viruses, organic and synthetic chemicals and a few other contaminants. Also, they have to disinfect the water. Bottled water companies are not required to test for anything except for bacteria once a week and and chemicals once a year. The bottled water companies that are dangerous are the ones that are being bottled from a well (ground water can get contaminated easily) and stay in state. The ones that are local. But do not worry, BIG companies like Poland spring bottle TAP water which is very safe! and they have their water across the country (crosses state boarders) so those kind of companies are safe. Just be careful : )
The ingredient in Plastic that we worry about is called Bisphenol A, it is highly toxic and causes birth defects and all sorts of problems. Just to be safe, it is better to use glass bottles to drink.

water really doesn't have an expiration date!! If it says so ur prolly reading it wrong, but if it does prolly cause it can taste weird being in the bottle something could happen between the water and the plastic and can prolly make it gross after years go by!

something about the plastic interacting with the water. Drink tap water.

that is nutty

aside from the plastic interacting with the minerals in the water, it is also a requirement for all food and beverage to have an expiration date.

So you won't experate or over-dose.
