What kind of french press is best? What kind of coffee to go with it?!
Answers: I want to get a french press as a gift. I am looking at a 4 cup press at target.com for under $25. Is this the best kind? How does the coffee get warm? I did not see a plug in... also, I read that I may need courser coffee grinds for this thing. The person I am giving this too has shown a preference for robust coffees, like Sumatra. Can you tell me where I can get the right kind of coffee for this?
I would recommend the Bodum French press and during this season, I think u get pretty good discount and probably can get one for about $30.00.
For french press, you need real hot water, pour into the press, let is seep then plung it in to press the flavour out.
Hmm, your friend likes Robusta? So, she likes strong coffee? Note that Robusta gives the strength while Arabica gives the flavour and aroma, so I would think a 30% robusta and 70% arabica would be great for your friend profile.
Timothy Horton, Douwe Egberts all have such blend, go to your nearest coffee shop to check it out!
Boiling/very hot water is poured over the grounds in a french press (you heat it up in a pot, tea kettle microwave, whatever) and then a plunger with a screen separated the brewed coffe from the grounds when you push it down. It is correct that the grounds needs to be coarse. You probably can't buy coffee already ground this way. You can just go to Starbucks and buy the coffee there, tell them it's for a french press and they'll grind it for you. Sumatra and Ethiopia Sidamo are good but any kind can go in a french press. People at Starbucks are generally really helpful if they aren't too busy....you can also buy a scoop there that measures out 1 scoop per cup of coffee you want to make. Best of luck!
I work at Starbucks and we sell french presses for about $20 bucks. They are really nice ones too, that have measurement markings on the sides. This makes it really easy. Presses are not electrical. You put coffee in the bottom, hot hot water on top, leave for 4 minutes, and then press. Voila! You have wonderful, delicious coffee! You definetly have to have coarsely ground coffee for the press, otherwise the grounds end up in your drink (blah!!). Sumatra is really good if you like earthy notes to your coffee. I love the Starbucks Italian roast in my press. It's robust, but has sweet caramelly undertones. (Ethiopia Sudamo is NOT a robust coffee. It's one of Starbucks lightest coffees.) Good luck! And great gift idea!!
