You can reuse tea bags or loose tea, as long as you don't let the leaves dry out between steepings. If the tea sits around too long, it can grow mold.

You'll want to lower the brewing temperature a bit, and add 50% to the brewing time. For example, a tea you originally brewed for 3 minutes should be re-steeped for 4 1/2 minutes.

If you want to lower the caffeine content of tea, brew it for 30 seconds, then throw that cup out. Rebrew it using the guidelines above, and you'll get almost as much of the flavor, but very little caffeine.

Your doctor might have been concerned about bacteria. Bacteria can grow, especially on wet, warm items.

why wouldn't a doctor explain himself. that's very odd. I think the reasons he would have stated were that used tea bags don't contain as many health benefits when they are reused. Tea bags lose a lot of the flavor also, but it's not dangerous to reuse tea bags. It's perfectly fine if you can stand the taste. Just don't let them stand around because they will get moldy and get contaminated if they sit around for a long time.

Yes: because of Bacteria & germs... Blah1977 is right

Yes it is bad to reuse tea bags. The best of the tea is used in the first tea cup and normally with only minutes of steeping.
