Is Coffee really bad for you?!

Question: I know this is like a stupid question but i was watching The One Show the other week and it was like a documentary about 'Starbucks Coffee' and 'Costa Coffee' and said that whatever it is on a selected drink, it contains some chemicals that are certainly bad for your health at least 'one' cup, I totally dissagree. (Stupid)

* Miscarriage
There may be as much as a 30 percent increase in early miscarriage of normal pregnancies for women who drink one to two cups of coffee a day. One study has shown this goes up to 40 percent with four cups. There’s also concern about caffeine consumption while trying to conceive. Some studies have shown infertility rates double for women who drink more than two and a half cups of coffee a day.
* Cancer, coffee and smoking
No cancer correlation to caffeine has been found, except that women who smoke often do so at the same time that they drink their coffee. There is no increase in breast cancer from caffeine, although some women find breast tenderness is worsened with increased caffeine consumption.
* Osteoporosis
There is no conclusive link between caffeine and osteoporosis, but if caffeinated beverages (without milk) preclude milk or calcium-containing fluid consumption, the lack of calcium intake will correlate with osteoporosis risk.
* Hypertension
Caffeine can raise blood pressure for a few minutes, and in some cases hours. However coffee consumption does not seem to cause ongoing hypertensive disorder. If you already have hypertension, however, a cup of coffee may temporarily raise your blood pressure and this could ultimately increase your more immediate risk of stroke.
* Heart disease
Caffeine can cause palpitations, irregular or fast heartbeat, and if you have an existing abnormal heart rate or heart disease, this could be a problem. One study found an increased risk of cardiac arrest in nonsmokers who consumed six or more cups of coffee a day. But in general we can’t blame heart disease or heart attacks on reasonable caffeine consumption.
* Headaches
Caffeine can increase the effectiveness of headache medications (and many of the over-the-counter headache medications in fact combine caffeine with either aspirin or a Tylenol-like component). But these combined products can actually cause rebound headaches. To avoid this “take a pill feel better, then worse” cycle, over-the-counter medications with caffeine shouldn’t be used for more than two days at a time.
* PMS
Caffeine acts as a diuretic and should decrease discomfort and bloat. But it can also cause a fall in blood sugar, which increases symptoms of PMS. There can be a three-fold increase in PMS if we drink more than three to four cups of coffee a day.
* Bladder conditions
Caffeine speeds the kidneys’ processing of fluid, so we have to go more frequently. It can also irritate the bladder, leading to certain forms of incontinence.
* Caffeine and sleep
Caffeine stimulates the brain and also affects levels of melatonin, which promotes sleep. It takes four to seven hours to metabolize caffeine. The older we are, the longer it takes. And if you are on birth control pills or estrogen, the half life of caffeine may be doubled. So an afternoon cup of coffee can cause late night insomnia.
* Caffeine and anxiety
High doses increase the level of brain chemicals associated with anxiety.
* Caffeine and heartburn
Even decaffeinated coffee can increase stomach acid production and affect the closing of the valve between the stomach and esophagus, leading to reflux and heartburn. If you do have this problem, you not only need to decaffeinate, but you need to de-decaffeinate, i.e. no types of coffee at all.

Caffeine is not good for you, and large a mounts of coffee are not good for your teeth, but if you drink decaf relatively seldomly, it's not a problem.

the sugar in it is bad for you since itll make you fat, etc but coffee in itself is ok but too much caffeine isnt. sometimes they say coffee can help prevent cancer, sometimes they say it can help you GET cancer so im confused on their studies cancer wise, just drink it dont worry bout it bud you'll be fine

coffee is a drug and should be limited as such it can be a very good think when limited.....

not as bad as drinking bleach...just more expensive

Thanks for reminding me. I'm going to pour a cup right now.

Its all good for you :D

Coffe is bad for you

too much of anything is bad, but I highly doubt one cup is bad is too

i dont know
but as long as just one cup a day would be fine

No, I don't think coffee is bad for you if you only have 1 or 2 cups of it per day.

Well, coffee contains caffeine in it, and caffeine is a Drug Stimulate. Most people think of caffeine as not a drug... but it can certainly affect your health if your not careful! Go look up the effects of caffeine in Google, if you want.
They say try to not drink caffeine at all, or... least as possible. A lot is not good for you.

yea it is kind of bad. well first of all it is like a drug. it has something in it, caffeine and other stuff to make you addicted to it, like nicotine in a ciggarette. second it stains your teeth badly because of the coloring. third if you're young it stunts your growth. fourth its disgusting!!!

Yes, caffeine is not good for you. I'd say one cup every couple of days max.

This includes a long list of pros and cons of drinking coffee.

well , it sure turns your teeth yellow

yes yes yes yes yes. it is BAAAD foryou. you can get addicted and it draines your pocket money it also can make your mouth an unplesant place. as much as you mau disagree with me, and say that people get addicted to m&m's but i say m&m's dont make your breath smell like you eat raw meat or something.not that i dont like meat, but it smells horrible and tastes bitter. but thats just my opinion.

I am not the right person to ask, I may be biased! I drink coffee all day everyday! I'm 46 and still healthy! Draw your own conclusions! Besides, isn't just about everything bad for us these days...from the water we drink to the air we breathe!I'm not gonna worry about it, just going to do what I want till I die!
LOL

Depending on who you listen to EVERYTHING is bad for you. Meat, fish, eggs, cheese, milk, butter, bread, beer, wine, liquor, soda, coffee, tea....and good grief don't drink the tap water! LOL

I love my coffee and while I have cut back (I used to drink a heck of a lot of it) I still enjoy a couple of cups a day.

Everything in moderation ~

The health effects of coffee has been studiied extensively. There are no major health risks associated with moderate coffee consumption, and may even hav some benefits. It may be best to avoid crops that have been sprayed with chemicals, though.

yes

Caffeine can be bad for you if you drink too much. If you get into the habit of drinking it all the time you could get addicted.
If you drink caffeine before bed, than you won't get the deep sleep you need at night. Then you'd be tired in the morning, and have to drink more. That's the cycle for most addicts. You won't get addicted if you drink a good amount though.
It's not a stupid question. Lots of people I know think that coffee is bad for you, but it really isn't. One actually thought that coffee was an alcoholic drink. (dumb, huh? They're all Mormon... but that's what I get for living here.)
For the Starbucks part, if you order something low fat or skim mild it's not really that bad for you fat- and calorie-wise. I've never actually heard of chemicals in starbucks coffee, but. then again, I don't really watch TV.
So I totally disagree too.
:)

Coffee has been around for a long time. Maybe it is bad for you if you drink it in the jumbo sized cups the sell now, and every few hours at the drive thru places. That didn't exist before so maybe that kind of over drinking is what all the fuss is about.

Why oh why can it never be something that tastes horrible that is bad for you? By the way you mention Starbucks my last choc. latte tasted like tepid water from them. In Canada Tim Horton's is King but for me Second Cup always gets it right.

It will really depend on how much of it you drink.

too much yea

it is really bad

just drink moderately, perhaps one cup a day. it shouldnt be
bad for you. black coffee should be even better.
