Why do water bottles have a "best if used by" date?!

Question: Because the polymers in the BOTTLE begin to break down eventually, and will contaminate the water.

That is also why you should NEVER refill those bottles.

I have always wondered that too, lol.

I believe it is only a few brands. I am not sure, but I think it may have something to do with the vitamins in it or something. Or maybe it is a law, that stores cannot market edible and drinkable items that do not have an expiration date. Remember, I am just going out on a limb here.

I have no idea. Good question

The plastic in the water bottle dissolves. Plastic by itself is quite harmful to humans which is why there have been studies taht show that drinking bottled water is carcinogenic (cancer causing). Avoid buying bottled water because it's one of the biggest scams anyway.

If you must drink water from a bottle then find a glass bottle, fill it up with filtered/tap water. Glass is inert i.e. doesn't react with water at all and hence you'll be safe.

Another thing to keep in mind is that bacteria multiplies in stagnant water. But it doesn't quite do as much damage as plastic.

It's a scam just like on the prescription bottles. I've used prescriptions like painkillers that were years past the expiration and they worked great. Come on now, it's water. The companies would hope you let it go past the expiration so you have to replace it and ultimately buy more. They are doing on beer now. All our Dad's drank beer for years without this scam and never complained once. Always remember to follow the money trail cause you can be sure that someone is trying to get yours...

i dont know but it might be because the stores that sell it need to get rid of it at some point in time

If you really want to know.....the bottled water is just tap water that they put through filters,so after a certain amount of time the bacteria levels will be higher.
