Why do English people prefer tea?!
Many of them thought/knew it was healthier than drinking water; which it was only because it was brewed (boiled to the point where deadly bacteria was killed). But they didn't really make the connection as to why it was safer...nonetheless they kept drinking it. A trusty water source was pretty scarce considering the Plague and all. Other drinks like mead (honey wine), wine and the like were available. However, it wasn't until the Brits made contact with Asia/Southeast Asia was tea introduced. Their imperialism lead them to India. Indians drink alot of tea. They call it "chai".
The origin of that tea came by way of the Chinese. They call it "cha". And that's how the Brits came to love their tea.
That's how I understand it happened...more or less.
Answers: A bit of history here: the early English for the most part drank "beer" or "ale". Men, women & children drank it constantly (kids drank it watered down of course).

Because they colonized India, and Indians drink tea.
lol great stereotype
because it's good and they want yellow teeth.
they feel sophisticated drinkn tea lol.
First, the English colonized India and the Far East in the 16th and 17th centuries. They established new plantations, developed blends, made it a major trade item (viz: Boston Tea Party) and incorporated tea into their rituals ("tea time").
That said, surveys have shown that today the English drink more coffee than tea, and Americans drink more tea than the English.
they just lik it lol
tea has caffeine in it and it is easy to be come addicted
it's just personal preference. Your question infers that they prefer tea to coffee? soda? water?
One reason that they might prefer it over coffee is that they've been raised to enjoy tea and its many intricacies just like Americans are now being brought up to drink coffee. It's part of culture in my opinion.
