If the full name of the drink is Coca-Cola... why is the short name for it Coke and not Coce or Coca?!

Question: Coca - Cola was invented in 1886, originally intended as a patent medicine thought to cure many diseases, including morphine addiction, dyspepsia, neurasthenia, headache, and impotence. It contained coca leaves from South America, which the drug cocaine is derived from
and was flavored using kola nuts, also acting as the beverage's source of caffeine.
In the 1980s, they changed the formula and sold the new product as Coke. But due to bad sales, they changed it back to Coca-Cola, minus the coca leaves.
Anyway, to answer your question, they either call it that because it used to contain cocaine or they just think the name sounds more catchy.

coce=cose, and time is money

It used to contain Coke...

thought of that before, actually. but i have no idea. sry

Back in the day, it was seen to be just as addicting as 'Coke'

Its not really. Coke and Coca Cola are two different companies, people just call them both Coke because they taste about the same.

it is short for cokaine which was in the original formula

cause back in the early days when it was first invented, they use to put cocaine (the drug) in it. BUT NOT ANYMORE!

Arent Coke and Coca-Cola different brands?
But really, its just soda.

Coca sounds like cocoa which is chocolate and Coce sounds like the drug...Coke is catchy and easy to remember

because there use to be Cokane in it so maybe that has something to do with it.

because there used to be cocaine in it

if the short name was Coce people might mistakenly pronounce is with an s sound and if it was Coca people might think in has cocoa in it because it comes from the cacao bean - similar. Coke prevents confusion.

it is coca in france. its coke perhaps because it contained cocaine until 1912

its simple man it just look like a coke(a form of carbon) mixed in water.and u can spell it easily C-ok-e and can be pronounced easily.

Both Coke and Coca-Cola are trademark names.

lol it's way easier to say coke than coca probably many people were then saying coke so it caught on

”The Coca-Cola soft drink was officially registered in the US Patent
and Trademark Office in 1893. Early advertising tried to stop people
from calling the product Coke because the company was afraid that the
new nickname would break down the distinctiveness of the mark and
contribute to making it generic. But people kept asking for Coke. In
1941, the Company started advertising as Coke and Coca- Cola. Finally,
in 1945 Coke was registered as a trademark.”

back in the day it had coke u know the drug coke in it

Think about it...Because Coke has a better ring to it...

Didn't "coke" originally have cocaine in it? Maybe that could be why?... and not that this answers the question but I thought it was kind of interesting the when coca cola originally tried to translate the name to sound the same in asian countries, it translated back to english as "bite the wax tadpole"... just thought that was funny

Most likely is because that's how the Coca-Cola Company spells it; the "Diet Coke" brand was introduced in 1982, and cans from 1985 (when they changed to the new formula) simply had "Coke" on them.

Don't you people know? Coca~Cola used to contain cocaine!

See for yourselves: http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/cocaine.a...

Because...
If they had coc, that is rude.
Coce sounds like a type of clothing and sooo...
Coke is a nicer word, doesnt it just make you thirsty ?!

cuz coce or coca sounds wierd too me...like hey lets have a coca?..doesnt workd and if u shorten the first part of coca..too just coc..its sounds like coke and im assuming they didnt spell it like coc because thats a reference to cocaine

originally it contained cocain.
