What does the mermaid on the Starbucks cup mean?!

Question: Ive always wondered about that....

Answers: Ive always wondered about that....

The Starbucks mermaid is actually a Siren, those ones that were used in Greek mythology.
The founders of Starbucks picked a Siren because those were said to hypnotize and draw sailors to their islands. Once the sailors were there, they could never leave.
The effect of Starbucks coffee was supposed to be the same, once you had a cup you were drawn there for life, never wanting another kind of coffee again.

Also, if you were wondering (or just an FYI!) Starbucks is called Starbucks after the coffee loving first-mate named Starbuck in the novel Moby Dick.

All I know is that the mermaid on the cup is supposed to be a siren, you know from mythology. They are the creatures that would sing and almost hypnotize sailors with their song. They would jump off the ship to try to swim to them and drown. There's a couple versions of that story.

Perhaps they want the coffee to hypnotize people?

Your coffee will taste like fish!
