i think you choke because of the gas the soda has. try to drink it from a cup and not straight from the bottle :)
and yes, it happened to me....

I choke drinking on water

Does it not happen with Coke? It might be the citric acid, it's probably the main ingredient that is different.

i do this all the time and to me i think its normal, when the fizz comes in contact with a certain part of your mouth it causes you to cough it up. this happens usually when you start to first drink the cola

It's probably a combination of the carbonation (the fizz) and the acidity of the cola. I haven't choked, but I've felt it "catch" on the back of my throat. It doesn't happen if I drink it slowly, but if I swallow it quickly, that sensation can happen.
