Starbucks Coffee - Americanos! Why are they called that?!

Question: Just wondering why Americano's are called Americano!

Answers: Just wondering why Americano's are called Americano!

It started with American GI's in europe in WW2 time looking for a good cup of coffee. They didn't want the espresso- so the local coffee houses mixed espresso with hot water to get something close-- so it is European coffee, American style.

I believe its spanish slang

If you're talking about Starbucks cafe Americano, it's called that because it's coffee the way americans make it, supposedly.

americanos are espresso and hot water. it dilutes the espresso to the strength of a regular "american style coffee" if you go to italy and order an american coffee, they will give you an americano, since drip style coffee is not popular there. it's not just starbucks that calls it that, it is a standard coffee term.

LOL @ the ignorant first answer..

Starbucks is expensive in australia, so i've only tried it once. Same as buying a cheap coffee somewhere else
