If Aspartame is poison why is it in our drinks?!

Question: Because the company that makes aspartame is more powerful than the people who are against it. Like me.

Lots of things we eat are poisonous, in large enough doses.

Chlorine will kill you in very small doses, but it is still present in the water of most metropolitan areas.

good question. probably because these days companies care more about their profit than the health of people. how sad is that?

There are many things in foods and drinks that are not good for us, yet they're made anyway.

Very good question. There are lots of ingredients that are approved that I would rather not be putting in my body.

Because it makes things taste sweet without adding calories like sugar does.

Formaldehyde is in nail polish ..... why do we still use it on our nails.

It's such a small amount that we'd have to drink 100 sodas a day for it to affect us.

So say the scientists.

Because it does a certain job and it does it cheaply...manufacturers dont care that aspartame is bad...they just want to sell the drinks...drink pure juice and you wont have a problem.

Why, to poison us, of course. Guess who was CEO of Searle when they were finally able to get it approved by the FDA - none other than Donald Rumsfeld.

You should take a look at the carcinogens in soap, shampoo, and lotions.

We do not know the long term effects of ingesting such large amounts of aspartame at this time. It is a fairly recent thing.

my guess is that there is big money in that product and there are people who create evidence that it is harmless, and thus, get paid big bucks to keep it on the market. People who do their own research know to stay away from the product. But people that don't might get sick over time. The key word is "over time" since it doesn't rapidly kill someone. It might not kill, but just get someone really sick.
It is all about MONEY

It's not poison. It's never really been shown to be harmful. It's in our drinks because saccharin and cyclamate -were- shown to be dangerous, and because sucralose (Splenda) is still too expensive.

In a few years when sucralose gets cheaper you'll see it in more products. Then people will say the same thing about it, that it's poison, causes cancer, etc. It's just how people are.

I am diabetic and real sugar is poisonous to me! But refined white sugar is not good for -anyone-! I suspect whatever dangers there are in artificial sweeteners, they are minor compared to real sugar.

Maybe there's some sort of conspiracy, maybe there isn't.

Aspartame is an artificial sweetner and the FDA has found no known links between it and any diseases (in that it has found no pattern of symptoms).

One could argue that a claim stating so many diseases and illnesses are caused by one chemical is curious at best, and likely incorrect.

The link I listed below is a website that debunks urban myths (I used to hear that aspartame was the main ingredient in rat poison, for example), and once you scroll through the email they are debunking, there is a very long list of articles stating that aspartame is not known to cause death or illness.

Because it is a low calorie substitute for sugar. Although you would need a large amount for it to harm you, it is still a poison and not great for your health.

Relax. These additives have been approved. The FDA had approved it. There are plenty of people who oppose many things in our food supply, such as fake sugars, phosphoric acid(colas in pop drinks), GMO's (genetically modified plants ,livestocks fed with GMOs, and byproducts) etc, but they pass the standards for basic food.
We all eat the same food from the same food supply.

Being a diabetic, I am glad it's out there. It widens the choices. Does anyone remember saccharin? It was bitter and just awful. You'd have to drink massive amounts of aspartame to have it poison you.

Many gave good answers here - it's obvious big business. It's not poison, per se, which is why it's allowed.
Next culprit is Splenda - which they lead you to believe is LIKE real sugar. Not so.
Much better to eat the real thing, and limit the amounts. Same with everything in life - moderation.
And for diabetics, there are LOTS of options out there.
Better to have some white sugar than to have your brain rotting away....
