Why does decaf coffee still contain caffeine?!

Question: And is there anything I can do (making it at home) to lessen the effect?

I have not had an actual cup of coffee, or any other caffeinated beverage for over a year, due to pregnancy. I am currently breastfeeding my baby, and even decaf seems to bother us both - makes me jittery and her irritable. So I rarely even have decaf. I know part of this reaction is due to me not having it in a while. But what can I do - I really love coffee!

Try herbal coffee. http://www.teeccino.com/ I have been off caffeine for over 2 years. This is the best alternative. Taste almost like real coffee.

They can't wash all the caffeine out. Try herbal tea.

It has a very small amount of caffeine but it still contains the acids and other ingredients that are often hard on your stomach and are dehydrating. Maybe try those coffee flavored candies?

This site explains it very well

You could try iced coffee with decaf coffee, so you're drinking less of it and it ends up with more water in it, or use a lot of milk in it so you're drinking less coffee.

Good luck!

decaf will always have a small amount of caffeine. avoid coffee and tea completely. Try some herbal teas. Rooibus and Honeybush are great alternatives for you, in my opinion. no caffeine and taste great.

soymilk is always another good option, and of course water.

One thing I learned about coffee is, it's naturally caffienated, and with sodas, the ADD caffiene. That's why you can get a 100% caffiene free soda, but not a purely decaffienated cup of coffee. It has to go thru a process and it's not 100%.

I do find it odd tho, that the small amount in decaf coffee would bother you and especially, with the trace amt thru breasmilk, your baby. hmmm

Do you eat chocolate? That's full of caffiene.....

yes it has a little caffeine, but not much.

There is a negligible amount of caffeine in decaf coffee. It should NOT be enough to bother either you or baby. Maybe you need to look at something else you are eating that may be bothering you/ her.

Another thing to consider... are you ordering the coffee out or making it yourself? I think sometimes the counter people don't listen very well and you may be getting caffeinated coffee by "mistake".

yah....still....cntain....caffeine.........
