Why does water run through mountasins for thousands of years, but when they bottle it it has a sell-by date?!

Question: It has been exposed to light!

Unless water has been microfiltered, it will contain micororganisms which become an algal film if left in sunlight.

Also, plastic bottles themselves have a limited use period, in that they start to dissolve into the water with time.

my guess would be b/c if the company does not put that on there it could be a liability!

It's because of the plastic bottle it's in. It leeches chemicals into the water.

I asked this question once and was told that because the water is put into plastic bottle or glass bottle it mixes with the particles or components (can't think of the word) but any way it touches the plastic or glass which means the water is not fresh and causes it to have less of a sell by date.
hope it answers your question, it maybe wrong but its the answer i got!

Non-flowing water stagnates.

when mountain water is bottled at source it is then considered contaminated hence having to be given a sell by date .the stomach bug helorcabactor-pylori was found in natral spring water.

contaminants are introduced and goes bad when left sitting.

So that you will throw it away and buy another bottle that much sooner if you have kept it for future use.

Because bottled water is a bunch of bunk. Most of it is just filtered tap water.

Just drink tap water. If you want to improve the flavor, get yourself a filter.
