Are Brita filters a scam?!

Question: The filter has to be changed every month or so depending on how often it's used.....these things cost $8 a pop...so do you think they last longer than the company attests?

A brita or other filter is a good idea if there are minerals or other substances in your tap water that you'd like to eliminate. It is important to point out that municipal tap water in nearly all areas in the United States is safe to drink (if you'rs wasn't, you'd likely have heard about it unless you live under a rock). Filtration is just a matter of taste.

I use a Brita filter, and have for years. They are rated for three months, and while you do get your best filtration during the beginning of that period, you will get adequate filtration for several more months. Use it until you begin to notice the tastes you'd like to avoid, then replace. I go about five months at a time.

no not really. I use a brita pitcher and can tell when my filter needs changed and its bout once a month

Over the years I have used a number of water filters but never a Brita. I found then to be costly, the filter that is.They almost give you the housing for free because they know you're going to have to buy their filters. Check out the findings in Consumers Report. They tell it the wat it is.

I have a Brita Pitcher that I've had for almost 10 years. I always change my filter about every 3 months or so...sometimes longer. I know when it needs it when the water starts to taste more like it does from the tap (nasty, like bleach) I LOVE my Brita. The cost is worth it for me because the alternative is drinking water that tastes like S***!!!

It depends on how often you have to change the filter, and how much you value filtered water. It could take a couple of months to have to change the filter if you're mostly using a cup at a time. We fill my husband's small coffee maker every morning, and it takes us about a month and a half to use up a filter. Using a Brita pitcher is a lot cheaper than buying bottled water, I think. We buy the filters in boxes of four or six when they're on sale at Target. That lowers the price to four or five dollars each.

I would say that they last longer. I use a Brita and usually change it when the water tastes bad because you can definitely tell. It all depends on the usage. I personally feel Brita can make better filters that don't need to be changed so often, but of course that would eat into their profit.

If you don't already know, a bigger scam is bottled water.
