Taking green tea's temperature?!

Question: I see a lot that you want to steep green for 3 minutes at around 180 degrees.

My question is, what do you personally use to take the tea's temperature?

I don't check the temperature every time. Water that's just short of boiling is right for green tea. There should be little bubbles at the bottom of the kettle/measuring cup.

You could get something fancy, like this: http://www.republicoftea.com/templates/d...
A meat thermometer would be fine, though, and you can usually get one of those in the kitchen gadget section of your supermarket.

A thermometer. Stupid. I'm gonna torture myself until you cry.

You don't really need to check the temp. Bring your water to just shy of boiling, (water boils at 212 F), steeping for longer than three minutes can make your tea taste flat or leave a drier bitter after taste depending on the quality.

what I do is boil water, and then either let it cool down for a few minutes, or I mix it with some colder water and estimate it.

....but 99.8% of the time, I just pour boiling water into my cup of loose leaf green tea. i don't care, just as long as I don't steep too long.
