Does anyone know how to make Iced Coffee at home?!

Question: I have never really like coffee, but one moring I tried the Hazelnut Iced Coffee from Mickey D's and fell in love. I find my car driving there every moring to get one...I would really rather know how to makes something like it at home. It would save me time and $ and a lot of times I can't just order the Iced Coffee, I order something else even more fattening. lol. I know i will have to buy a coffee maker...does anyone have any suggestions on what I will need ingrediants wise and/or how to make it? Like I said, I have never really drank coffee, so I am clueless to it all.

You'll need the coffee for one. You can buy already ground coffee anywhere and it comes in a lot of flavors, not just hazelnut. Use 1 level tablespoon per cup of coffee you want to make. Follow the directions on your coffee maker and you should come up with pretty good coffee. When I make iced coffee, I make a pot then put it into the refrigerator overnight. Once it's cold I use sweet n' low or splenda or one of the other sugar substitutes to sweeten it to my liking. I don't use real sugar since I don't feel it dissolves completely and I don't like the layer of sugar at the bottom of the cup. I use half and half to lighten since the cold coffee doesn't allow a powdered creamer to dissolve. And liquid creamer comes in many flavors as well so if you make just plain coffee, you can experiment with flavors using liquid creamer. I don't use ice because it dilutes the coffee. If you like the ice, you could make double strength coffee (all the grounds and half the water) then add however much ice you like.

Good luck!

Iced coffee is normally 2x stronger than home brewed stuff. Then, put the double-strong coffee in the fridge and enjoy over ice.

Don't forget all the wonderful flavorings and half and half that most places put in the coffee.

ice coffee is simple.

brew coffee. let it sit and cool down first before you pour into a glass containing ice cubes. you can brew it stronger to counteract the effect of ice cubes diluting your coffee.

you don't really need a coffeemaker, go to a asian supermarket and see if they have any vietnamese coffee makers that look like this.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/eviljunglep...
you put these metal filters on top of your cup to make coffee.

here's instructions.
http://www.ineedcoffee.com/04/vietnamese...

italians make a similar contraption.

but these are more expensive. the vietnamese ones cost $2-3, the italian ones cost $15+

get coffe pot, and hazelnut coffe if that is what you like. 1 scoop for 2 cups, brew and pour over ice.

Use a teaspoon of instant coffee and a teaspoon of sugar. Add enough hot water to melt the crystals. Mix. Then add equal parts milk & water to fill the glass. Add some ice & enjoy. You can also add a touch of vanilla extract. It's really good, fast, & easy!

make coffee add milk and sugar put it in the fridge for about three hours

I have a coffee maker, but found an instant Italian Expresso coffee that I mix with some water, pop into the microwave and zap for about 1-2 minutes. Fill your travel mug with ice, add a packet of sweetner, then the NO FAT half and half. I make it pretty strong, but you can controll this to your taste. If you want the hazelnut flavor, get the creamora coffeemate flovoring but remember to mix it in while the coffee's HOT. I personally don't like the stuff and don't think it's good for you, but a little is ok. I sometimes forgo the sweetner and cream and put in a BIG dollop of Baileys Ice cream... YUMMY!

I know of several ways of making this it just depends on how you want it to turn out
I have am giving you general recipes as I know everyone likes their coffee different.
it may take you a bit to find the best way for you to make it but once you find it you will love it.
the benifits of making it at home is it is cheaper and you controll what you put into it you can cut out most of the fat (if you use skim or 1% and sugar you can use splenda (but not the other sweetners as they will not stand up to the freezing process. :D
For all of them you will need to make a strong coffee directions below

if you want hazelnut flavour go to a speciality coffee store and get flavoured grinds they have all kinds of flavours but make sure that they are the grinds not powdered

the first part has to be made up ahead of time.
for best results you will need a one cup coffee cone and filters
you can get them for a couple of $$

STRONG COFFEE
3 scoops of coffee place in the fliter
put this on a lg. coffee mug boil water
once boiled pour slowly over coffee grinds you want to make sure that you get all of the coffee grinds wet fill the cup pouring a little water over the coffee at a time.
once it has gone through take another cup and place the same filter and grinds on it and pour the coffee you just made through the grinds again Do this one more time so you have pour the liquid through the grinds three to four times. You do not want to pour it through more than four times or it can turn out bitter

This will give you the strong coffee you will need to make the iced coffee.
once done and cooled to room temp keep in the fridge in an air tight container/bottle.

To make iced coffee that is like a milk shake (very creamy)
in a glass or large measuring cup pour in milk what ever kind you like I use skim so I do not get all of the fat.
to this add 2 to 4 tbls of the strong coffee
for most people you will have to add sugar you can use splenda if you do not want sugar.
stir well and taste it is up to you how much coffee and sugar you need to add. This changes from person to person. Just add a little and play with it until you find out what works for you

(When in a hurry I pour this mixture over ice cubes or crushed ice and enjoy you can squirt some whipped cream over this and to that sprinkle some graded chocolate or cinonmon or nutmeg/ this has the added benifit of not needing a blender.)

To Make the powdered chocolate sprinkles
in either a food processor or a blender put in chocolate chips
use the pluse setting and on high
I like using the chips as they are already small and they come in so many flavours. But you can use most any chocolate. Blend them until they are very fine keep them in a air thight shaker or container.

For a different flavour you can use chololate bars the kind that are hard like crispy chrunch

pour this into ice cube trays and freeze until hard cubes are made if you are going to be drinking allot of these get a container and once the cubes are frozen put them into the container so you will have lots of cubes on hand.

when you are ready to make up per serving

take 2 to 4 of the frozen coffee cubes (depending on size of cubes) and put into a blender
add 2 tbls of the strong coffee you have made up and milk about one cup you may have to add sugar depending on how much you added when you froze the cubes

blend using the pluse setting if you want it thick do not add too much milk and use a rubber spatula to stir it often if you want it thinner add more milk remember the more milk you add is going to make it weaker in coffee flavour so you may have to add more coffee

You will find if you add sugar to the mixture you are freezing that they are sticky so I do not add sugar until I am blending it.

TO MAKE THAT IS MORE ICY SLUSHY
still make up the strong coffee but I make a pot of coffee using about twice the amount of coffee I would normally
once cooled to room temp I freeze this I do not add sugar or milk the plus side to this is the cubes are not sticky.
once frozen
place 2 to 4 cubes of coffee into a blender and add about a cup of milk / // I add sugar at this time. Again it is to taste.

it is some thing that I find everyone likes a different way so play with it if you like mocca flavour use reg coffee and either add a squirt of chocolate syrup to it or use chocolate milk if you do not like sweet coffee do not add the sugar.

On those hot summer days and on those days you would like a kick to it add a shot of irish cream or Kahlua to it.

If you have any ?? about this email me.

Make regular coffee and let it cool, or put it into the fridge to cool down. Then mix in what you want and pour it over ice.
