I work at a grocery store, can I have a bottle of water at the register?!

Question: I get thirsty pretty quickly, and sometimes the sun is beaming right through the glass and the store gets hot ,I've also had a water bottle or some soft drink around me, I work at the customer service desk, refunds/exchanges etc. Im not handling food, just bagging a few of them but I occasionally drink something when I get a chance, but now my Boss is telling others no drinks at the registers, is this legal?

I dont see why not i did,just keep it under the register. he has to let u drink water so if you cant have it at your register tan you can take a break when ever and how ever much u choose too.
