Cafetiere vs filter coffee?!

Question: whats the similarities/differences
are they interchangeable

Answers: whats the similarities/differences
are they interchangeable

They're similar methods of making coffee. The cafetiere is less likely to overextract the coffee. The flavor tends to be a little more balanced and smoother. Using one requires a coarser grind which may be harder to come by if you don't buy your own grinder... and a little more effort... A decent grinder is required because the cheaper ones tend to create a lot of dust along with coarse grinds. It goes to waste if you separate it, or it clogs the press or ends up in your cup. You can get pretty similar results with a drip coffee maker and a wire filter basket (no paper filter) if you experiment with slightly different grinds and find what's optimum for your coffee maker and the size of the pot you usually make.

filter coffee is often stronger, and hotter - cafetiere uses a slower method to extract the flavour from the grounds, whilst filter coffee uses heat and high pressure.

Cafetiere has a fuller flavour. Instant is the Fosters of the coffee world - Cafetierre is the Guinness.
