What's up with the $1 coffee at Starbucks with unlimited refills?!

It's just in Seattle right now.. However if it is populary they could expand to other Starbucks in the U.S.
They were trying out something new because of all of the competition or coffee wars. This was on the news the other day. And on the internet...I think CNN?
I guess McDonalds has cut into their business with their iced coffee drink.
