How can I wake up in the morning without coffee? I can't keep my eyes open and lent starts tomorrow!?!

Question: Are there any caffeine or chocolate-free ways of giving yourself a pep in the morning? I'm finding it so hard to stay awake in front of the computer at work without a mocha in the morning and I'm giving up caffeine for Lent tomorrow! Thanks guys!

Things what are working for me:

- standing on my head in the morning (just couple of minutes, stomach should be empty)

- some little exercise in addition to that (some stretching, whatever you like and do.. I do Sun greeting - it is also yoga). It is good if you can open window and breath deeply fresh air in (if you live in suitable place for that)

- fruit breakfast, or any other fresh raw type of food what you like, drinking plain water before breakfast is also good (no grains).

- also the way we feel in the morning (fresh and energetic, or tired and sleepy) depends on what we eat in the evening. So try not to eat grains in the evening (best time for grains is around noon - lunch time). It is even better if you will go to sleep, when you are a little bit hungry, then it is much more easier to wake up.

- walking to work (I do not know if it is applicable to your situation).

So if you can just adjust a little bit, what you eat:
try to eat more raw, fresh things (fruits, veggies),
try to cut down quantities of sugar, white flour and white rice
then you will feel rising energy levels and no need for additional stimulator.
And a bit exercising in the morning. :)

Good luck with Lent, wish you a lot of strengths! :)

Take a cold or a cool shower in the morning. Report It

  • Try working out as soon as you get up. It feels good to get your blood pumping and gives you energy all day. It's hard to get in the habit of it but it's worth it.

I hve read that an apple is better for waking a person up than coffee.

Stretching seems to help for me. It gets the blood pumping through your body. Also, for some weird reason, chewing gum helps keep me awake. I used to chew gum during long, boring meetings and I was able to keep my eyes open the whole time!

Eat some fresh Apples. I read it once in the readers digest.

I admire you!! I thought the only thing given up for Lent was alcohol :)

This is what I do every morning, before I go to work. I wake up at 5:30 AM and I go to my tredmill in the basement, I just jogg on that for about 20 minutes. Then I would do some streching. That really helps me to teach better in school. Before I leave the house, I always have to remmber to bring a pack of gum. I chew that duing the time I work. It really helps! If that doesn't help, just pump your blood a little more! I'm sure that will help! Good Luck!!

Maybe think about switching religions and becoming more spiritual than ritualistic? LOL! If you are giving up caffeine for lent then maybe try as others suggested, exercise or try some simple yoga streches. Good luck...may you find what you are hoping to find by sacrificing!
